Rick Smith, owner of The Pruning Guru, is a certified Georgia Nurseryman and a Georgia Certified Landscape Professional, both through UGA. He also has a Pesticide License and he has over 15 years experience in specialized landscaping with Georgia's largest apartment association, Post Properties. Rick also has been associated in the landscape industry for 38 years.
Once the decision has been made to prune, your next decision is whether or not to tackle the job yourself. In the case of a large tree where you want to remove big branches in the upper area of the crown, it may be best to hire experts. Large tree pruning, in particular, can require climbing and heavy saws or even cherry-pickers and chain saws.

I'm sitting in the parking lot of a captain d's eating lunch with my child and a truck from this company pulls up and the guy gets out and doesn't walk more than 10' in front of his truck not behind a tree or anything and just starts using the bathroom right there and that's so unprofessional. There are multiple gas stations across the street and there is a restaurant in this parking lot that is open in the lobby where you could go to the bathroom. Ridiculous.

Rick Smith, the Pruning Guru, knows his stuff! I had heard Rick speak and knew I wanted to use him one day. He also has a fantastic team working for him. They are knowledgeable, responsive, courteous, professional and really good at what they do! They were a joy to work with. My husband was in Houston for the Braves game (and they won the World Series!), and I texted him and told him the work Rick's team did in our yard was "transformational." We had not had any real landscape maintenance done for over five years and it was more than time to get it done. Got quotes from four different companies. Pruning Guru was not the cheapest but we got five-star service and professionalism. Took a while to get on their schedule but it was so worth the wait. We were originally scheduled for a Tuesday but bad weather postponed us to a Saturday; PG was in full communication with us the entire time. If you are a woman looking to work for them don’t. I used them as a service and witnessed the blatant disrespect of a female coworker. Grown men basically bullying her. You can tell she was still training and asking questions. Their workers are childish.

I had an Exochorda nightmare in my front yard and the Pruning Guru fixed it. He turned a gangly mess into lovely mounded (though large) shrubs. The pearl bushes are probably miss placed, but they fit in now and add to the landscape, rather than detract from it. There is harmony. I did not think this was possible. Thanks Mr. Smith.

River Plantation HOA hired The Pruning Guru to trim Japanese Maples and other ornamentals on the property that big tree companies do not do and our landscaper may or may not know how to do. Rick Smith gives a detailed description of the work and the team knew what they were doing. The Pruning Guru will be included in annual budgets going forward. Valuable resource to have on our property. Hire them.

I've never used the services of The Pruning Guru before. They are coming to prune my shrubs in July as that is the earliest I can get them.
I chose them because I'm a horticulturist and a previously certified arborist. I've usually either done my own pruning or supervised the pruning at my home, and I wanted a company that knows how to prune and not just shear my shrubs into round balls or chop off the limbs of my ornamental trees at random.
I've taught horticulture and Rick, the owner, has been kind enough to give pruning demonstrations at the college where I taught. We have also been copresenters

Got a garden in need of life, some love and happiness? Hello Pruning Guru! After all of last year’s rain our yard was totally overgrown. Rick came out and met with me. He took the time to listen and carefully map out a plan of trimming and rejuvenation. He was very knowledgeable and insightful but never pushy. I could tell we were in the hands of an expert. And now the the proof is in the product because our garden looks ten times better. Average looking shrubs now look beautiful and vibrant. We will use his servicea for a long time to come. Pruning Guru did a fabulous job!! When I first called this fall, the owner, Rick Smith, came out, and we walked my entire yard. Rick recorded what needed to be done, had it typed up and sent it to me with the cost. This month Billy and his crew showed up when they said they would, did what was on the list and were very professional all day!! I can't wait to see how our yard looks this spring!!
