A hundred-year-old Victorian house that's spent twenty years as a Bed and Breakfast doesn't turn back into a home overnight. It takes a little bit of time and a lot of love. So when a family in Berkshire County needed help renovating their early 20th century three-story Victorian house, I was ready to help them visualize the possibilities and create their own personal look.
Initially, this home had a contemporary feel, contrary to the beautiful post and beam features of the original house. We wanted to create a country-farmhouse feel that was condusive to the original architecture. By using textured fabrics, warm wall colors, arts and craft era wallpaper, updating lighting features, and customized furniture, we were able to create a transitional New England warmth.
This lovely home in Fairfield, Connecticut is a new construction. The beautiful landscape gives the interior a welcoming sense of bringing the outside in! The owners decided to begin with a clean slate and we started with wall colors, choosing a soothing, warm palette from the Farrow & Ball collection of organic paints.
At inception of the project, every wall in this home was white. We used hand painted silk wallpaper from England for the foyer, and added faux textured finishes throughout the home on walls and ceilings. Custom built-in/media center was designed for the family room. Rugs were selected for every room based on color palates.
