Lewis & Clark spec road base is a blend of Gravel and fine material which, when compacted will form a hard surface with a high level of mechanical strength. It has a high percentage of clay made to bind everything together. This would be the main building block for any county or gravel driveway.
It is created by mining a suitable rock formation and then breaking down the rock to varying sizes using a crusher. It ranges from 7/8 to 5/16. Crushed is typically used under foundations and is a good material for driveways. 1 crushed stone is a construction aggregate. It ranges from 1 to 7/8. 1 1/2 Crushed is typically used under large foundations and is a good material for muddier driveways.
Topsoil is the upper, outermost layer of soil, usually the top 2 inches to 8 inches. It has the highest concentration of organic matter and microorganisms and is where most of the Earth's biological soil activity occurs. Our topsoil mainly comes from the Helena valley. We screen and add a mixture of sand and manure.
1 Dutch Hill river is unique river rock that is ranges in colors from light gold to dark browns. It is located near Missoula. Lava rock is a volcanic rock that is really light and almost has a sponge characteristic to it. Our lava rock is red and imported from Idaho. 1 Missoula is a river rock near Missoula originating from the Clark Fork River. 1 Missoula is very colorful with colors ranging from pinks and purple to blues and grays.

I ordered 700 yards of screened dirt for landscaping mounds and a new road. Semi trucks came in a steady stream for over a week. I dealt with many different drivers. The experience was a tremendous one! Everyone went above and beyond to dump each load exactly where I wanted them. The crew was always upbeat and conscientious. The dirt was a high quality. 50% soil, 50% pit run.
Brad was very helpful coordinating everything on their end.
Very satisfied.

Used the shooter truck, what a great way to spread driveway gravel. The driver was very professional and did a wonderful job. This truck saved me hours of work. Thanks

I have been getting top soil and gravel from these guys for years. They have always been friendly and polite and not to mention loading me up ASAP. No complaints here.

Both setting up delivery and the delivery itself was perfect. Ron Par did an excellent job getting to a hard spot behind my house up a steep slope to dump dirt.

As of this date, Valley Sand and Gravel has applied for a permit for a gravel pit at their McHugh 2 site which is in the middle of an established residential neighborhood. This will result in an extreme degradation of the quality of life for over 600 families. I recommend that you do not do business with this firm while they are on this course.

These people deserve a 0. The lady who answers the phone is extremely rude, has no customer service skills, and apparently does not care about obtaining new business. The call was 45 seconds long and insisted on hanging up to answer other calls, which is extremely rude. This after having to call 4 times to get somebody on the line. You will never see any of our business. I wonder how many customers this person has lost for your business. I would look into it.

The owner of this company is more about his pocket book than he is about the community. During the last flood, we wanted to have sand delivered to our home, but didn't need an entire truck load. They said it would be $500-$700. We couldn't afford that, so thankfully the county stepped in and offered free sand and bags.
Now the valley is in the middle of a fight with the owner. He wants to put a gravel pit in the middle of a neighborhood, a community of 400 people. This gravel pit will affect our home values, our wells, our air, our already damaged roads and old bridges, the noise level and the

I do NOT recommend Valley Sand and Gravel, LLC. They proposed a mine in a housing area and don’t seem to care about the damage it will cause to the community.

I have purchased colored rocks from Valley Sand and was given great service. However, just looking out for number 1 is never a good sign. They are working hard to put a gravel pit immediately next to an established neighborhood, and have shown absolutely no regard for the people, young and old, who live there. What a mess, ruin the water table, more dust and noise than anyone can possibly live with, but they don't care.
