Kalamazoo Home Repair LLC is the latest incarnation of the business that I have owned and run since 1997. Many of you know me as Snapp Construction. Under that name, I did everything from roofing to remodeling to general contracting. While much of this work was enjoyable and rewarding, I often found myself a bit stretched thin.

I offered a very broad range of services. Too broad, in retrospect. I realized that the work I really found most enjoyable was fixing the little things. Handymen have a bad reputation. Deservedly so? In some cases, yes, I believe so. I do know, however, that there are some very skilled and honest ones.

I also know that the word can conjour an image of someone who is not highly skilled and not very professional. Instead of trying to valiantly fight that image, I decided to simply use the term "home repair" in describing what I do. I'm interested in developing long-lasting, trusting, mutually beneficial relationships with my clients.
Services
I do not give free estimates. My time is valuable, and I am not interested in competing with other contractors to win the lowest bid. I will arrive ready-to-work, and tell you what I think the project might cost. I understand that, as a homeowner hiring a contractor for services, that you want to know the cost upfront.
Continue reading Bathroom Floor Tile in Kalamazoo]]> Are you wondering how much it would cost to have new floor tile installed in your bathrooom in Kalamazoo? Maybe you're thinking of tackling it yourself. Let me start by saying that this type of job is probably outside the skillset of the average homeowner.
One place to get these is the ReStore. They have been getting end-runs or seconds fresh from the wherever, so you never know exactly what colors & patterns they'll have, BUT, they're only like 50/sq.ft.! Dog peed? No problem: Take it outside & hose it off. Or just replace it. No carpet pad, which is OK with me, although it might not be cushy enough for some folks.
New VCT and stair edges. VCT stands for "Vinyl Composition Tile", and it's the stuff you see in schools, restaurants, government buildings, etc. It comes in 1ft square pieces, although you can't really see the joints in these pictures. You often see checkerboard patterns with this stuff. It's inexpensive, the wear layer is the ENTIRE 1/8 thickness, and the only downside, in my eyes, is that you might want to wax it occasionally.

Mark was a great find to get some projects in our house done. He did good, careful work, cleaned up afterwards and didn't add-on extras beyond what we'd anticipated. He responded quickly to our calls, showed up when he'd promised and finished in a timely fashion. His prices were also quite reasonable. Our old house needs some attention so we will be calling on him again.

I had Mark repaired my old leaking shower faucet last week. He is very dedicated and knowledgeable on what he is doing. Work was done beautifully and professionally, and he charged a fair price. I definiatly will give him a call in the future home repair project.

We first hired Mark to take down and a deck and replace it with a new deck and wheelchair accessible ramp. We were so pleased with the work done that we then hired him for an additional deck and then a complete bath remodel. While Mark was professional and punctual, the best part of working with him was that we'd just give him a general idea of what we had in mind and then be amazed with the end result. We leaned on his expertise and he never failed to come up with something beyond our expectations.

I've hired Kalamazoo Home Repair for several projects over the last few years. From fixing an electrical switch, to designing & building an entry roof, to rebuilding a wall, Mark is skilled, efficient, and a pleasure to work with. In addition, he brings a mature, practical creativity to his work — there have been times where, after I've explained what needs to be fixed, Mark proposes a different, better, and ultimately more aesthetically pleasing solution, yet staying within the same budget. There have also been simple projects (for example, a single piece of exterior trim needing to be replaced

Kalamazoo Home Repair has done a ton of projects for me. From commercial, to personal. I am always blown away by the skill and the independence. You share what you want done, and it gets done, better than you thought. Also, you can't tell Mark was even there, the cleanup is so thorough!
