Clarksville Furniture Company's history began in 1852 when Franz Julius Liipfert, a German immigrant, was hired to come to Mecklenburg County to build cabinets for Randolph-Macon College in Boydton, Virginia. Liipfert later moved to Clarksville and began making furniture. This was the beginning of the present day Clarksville Furniture and Flooring Company.
