The most common thickness of drywall used in residential interior construction is 1/2 inch. This material is recommended for walls with studs placed 16 inches on center. However, other types of drywall come in different thicknesses; the most common are 1/4 inch, 3/8 inch, 1/2 inch and 5/8 inch. The most common thicknesses for general application are 3/8 inch and 1/2 inch.
The first step to hanging drywall is to take a pencil and mark on the drywall board and ceiling the placement of the vertical studs. This will simplify the attachment of the drywall panels to the framing. While amateurs often install drywall panels vertically, so that the long seams align along a stud, this is not the usual professional method.
There should be 1/8 space between sheets and you need to be consistent or the joints will be too-tight and you risk breaking off drywall. You also need to leave room for expansion or contraction of the underlying framing. Seasonal expansion of the wood framing can crack the drywall joints if they are too tight.

Great company! We were finishing our basement and called four drywallers. Two of them didn't call me back, and one of them was severely overpriced and unprofessional. When Miguel came out, he was so professional, knowledgeable and communicated every step. We were finishing up framing and electrical for inspection and even during that point he reached out to see where we were at to ensure proper scheduling. All the guys that came out were so nice, efficient and did an amazing job!
