Swan Masonry Company first started doing business in the Wilmington area in the fall of 1997. Within five years of the formation of the company, Swan Masonry had grown to become one of the most recognizable and sought after masonry contracting firms in southeastern North Carolina. What began as a small company dedicated to historic masonry restoration and preservation, quickly grew into a formidable, full service commercial and residential masonry contractor with nearly 50 employees by the spring of 2002.
Some of our more high profile projects include the retaining wall and gardens of The Pilot House and Elijah's at Chandler's Wharf, masonry restorations of the Graystone Mansion, decorative masonry work inside the North Carolina Aquarium at Fort Fisher, a 45,000 CMU commercial joint masonry project for the City of Wilmington in association with the North Carolina Department of Transportation, the new Hobby Lobby at Hanover Center as well as the new Starbuck's and Panera Bread located at Independence Mall at the corner of Independence and Oleander.

We made the mistake of taking the lowest bid on a backyard outdoor living project several months back albeit after spending some time negotiating with Jim Swan about the amount of work we needed done. We should have hired him from the beginning. We received four estimates - Swan was number 3 with one bid significantly higher and two bids lower.
Secondly, We have been in business since 1997 so we have our PROCESS down and we do not deviate from it. If you want to work here, you will have to become a part of our process - not how you did it at your old job. If you do not have a solid work ethic, a desire to provide an excellent product for our valued clients and a positive attitude about the very hard work that we do and the dues you are going to have to pay as a new member of the crew.

Jim and his crew repointed and sealed an exterior wall of my home to prevent water intrusion. They showed up and did the job on-time and on-budget. It is for these reasons that I highly recommend Swan Masonry. Thank you Jim for saving us further trouble with hurricane seasons - you have my family's gratitude.

We are very pleased with Swan Masonry for a multitude of reasons.
I found the company online and reached out. We heard back immediately. We needed a quote for a small project- probably much smaller than his minimum requirement, but Jim Swan was generous enough to quote us for the project anyway. You can tell his morals and practice are based around quality and not quantity. He didn’t even think twice about taking on our small project. He made it out to our house same day to give us a quote- in a matter of hours actually. I love a quick response!!
As soon as we decided to confirm with Jim that

Excellent work done for our HOA! Not only did Jim come out quickly and show up on time, he understood immediately what we needed. He was totally cognizant about how to undertake a complicated and delicate project! He explained all of the possibilities, and why he was recommending a specific way to proceed. It was immediately obvious that he knew all aspects of historical stone and masonry repair, and as a bonus he was personally acquainted with the historic commission; he knew their requirements and procedures! The work he did was exceptional, you would never know we had had such damage to our

I hired Swan Masonry to provide brick exterior for my custom home. Jim Swan appeared to be friendly and professional in the beginning, however that changed drastically. There were rarely crews on site working, the job took an extended amount of time, the work was not to professionalism, Jim Swan went missing for over a week and would not return texts, emails or calls, when he did return he walked off the job, he abandoned a truck in my yard, he destroyed my intact brick, his crews destroyed my yard and left it in disarray, he over charged and admitted he owed me money but never paid it back, he

I've hired Jim Swan and Swan Masonry many times. He told me he had an ex-girlfriend or someone writing fake reviews in different names to try and harm his business and I told him I was going to come on here and tell it like it is.
He is an extraordinarily busy contractor and has been since I first hired him in the late 90's. He was the premiere historic restoration and designer mason in Wilmington for years until his company got big and he began doing large commercial jobs. His work is everywhere across Wilmington!
He still does residential work around Wilmington and repointed a chimney and repaired

Swan completed most of our job, but very late and with an unprofessional crew. But of course that is part of the masonry business. He walked off the job and left a mess before finishing. Lots of excuses and he is capable of good work, when motivated. There are also bankruptcy proceedings against his company so do not prepay for any work and make sure you have a contract and check his current insurance if you choose his company.

These are the best contractors we have hired since moving to Wilmington and ESPECIALLY since the storm - which damaged our home terribly.
Jim Swan was beyond helpful and patient as my wife and I repaired and remodeled our home after the storm. He worked with the insurance adjuster tirelessly, and even patched the roof while he and his crew were rebuilding two chimneys for us since it was impossible to get a roofer to come and stop the water from coming in!
Swan Masonry repaired our stucco so well you literally cannot tell where the tree hit! They fixed the columns at our driveway destroyed by

I am laughing at the fake reviews after Jim Swan (who SAVED OUR HOUSE after Florence!) told me about them and asked us to write a review. It's easy to read through the lines.
This company has been around a long time. We first saw them building the Hobby Lobby at Hanover Center back in 2012 and figured they were too big a company to do our outdoor living job. Then we saw them building the Starbuck's at Independence Mall and called but did not receive a call back.
A month later - after not receiving a call back from EVEN ONE of the masonry contractors we called, we saw the Swan Masonry trucks bricking

Swan Masonry is hands down the best masonry contractor I have ever used.
