A good architect can sense the pulse of a whole home's space and its flow and tempo before it is more than a drawing. Kirk Stathes has a practiced, innate handle on form, scale and light, so much so that he's able to gauge the effectiveness of simple square footage as it applies to a client's complex vision.

For more than 40 years, Kirk Stathes has specialized in residential architecture - from remodels to large custom homes - plus small commercial spaces. Stathes' architectural skill extends beyond type. He doesn't limit his work to a particular style, but rather has evolved his trade to the point of delivering design-build plans that are precisely appropriate for a particular client, neighborhood and budget.

Stathes was a pioneer in the use of solar panels in Boulder, Colorado in the late '70s. His employment of the latest technologies and materials continues to enhance the lasting, appreciable value of the homes he designs today. Trained at California State Polytechnic University in San Luis Obispo, California, Stathes has practiced in Virginia, Hawaii, Washington, and Colorado, most recently with Wagner Architectural Team and Martin Design.

Our first task is a site visit to assess the application of architecture to land. The site drives the design of the house including the slope to the views to what's adjacent to the site. Once those factors are defined, we sit with our clients to review what they want and what the need, their budget and we get deeply into their lifestyle: do they have children, do they work at home, and what size rooms do they prefer?
Kirk was sensitive to our lifestyle. Just by observing our existing house, he knew exactly what would best fit our lifestyle in our next home. We went with Kirk because his personality best fit with ours. He really listened to what we wanted and stayed true to our design, while putting his own special touch on it.
It's one good reason why repeat clients insist that Stathes design their next home, whether that's a second, vacation home, a relocation to a new city, or a downsized home for empty-nesters. The time Stathes invests in each project design phase is unlimited. A design is developed until it is complete, not just because the budget is spent.
The relationship of architectural style from the exterior to the interior is one of form and function. Each family, or in the case of a commercial space each business model, has its unique style and purpose. It's the DNA of a household; it's the best practices in an enterprise.
Three-dimensional elevations bring drawings to life so that clients can fully appreciate the scope and scale of their intended home. From this, we can see the cast of light at different times of day, the view from approach and the expanse of the interior rooms. These projections of the yet un-built home help to confirm the dynamics of the home as it will work when finished.
