The Volunteers in the community can trace its history back to 1983, when the Four Corners Volunteer Fire Department was established to cover Four Corners, Glencoe, Sorrell, and the Port of West St. Mary Area.

In April of 1990 St. Mary Parish Government formed the St. Mary Parish Fire Protection District #11 Board of Commissioners, under Ordinance No. 1096 of the St. Mary Parish Council for the purpose of providing fire protection, medical assistance, and extrication rescue.The District encompasses all territory north of the Intracoastal Waterway in Ward One and Two.

The St. Mary Fire Protection District #11 protects the citizens and property in all areas north of the Intracoastal Waterway in Wards One and Two; the west and north boundary being the Iberia Parish line and the east boundary described hence: beginning at the intersection Iberia Parish line to the Intracoastal Waterway.

The goal of this statewide initiative is to dramatically reduce these fire related injuries and deaths across the State of Louisiana by providing smoke alarms to vulnerable citizens and at risk communities with the help of your local fire department.
