Bill Mellett, ASLA, is a graduate of UCLA's Landscape Architecture program and a registered Landscape Architect. He has over 35 years of experience in the landscape industry and was the owner of a design build landscape contracting company involving all facets of landscape construction. As a Licensed Contractor, Certified Arborist, and Landscape Architect, Bill has an extensive knowledge of construction methods and materials.
After graduating from UCLA, Bill focused solely on landscape design. In 2006, he founded his own firm, Bill Mellett Design (BMD). His vast amount of experience is the result of completing hundreds of diverse projects in both public and private sectors. Bill's love of the outdoors and respect for the natural environment are the cornerstone to his landscape designs.
He is a natural collaborator who believes that superior design, executed professionally, combined with excellent customer service are the keys to a successful project. At Bill Mellett Design (BMD), we believe landscape design is a blending of Art and Nature.

At BMD, we believe landscapes cannot function without a balance of three parts: natural systems, long-term economic sustainability, and aesthetic & functional value. Here at BMD, we incorporate these concepts into the foundation of every project we are apart of. One of the beautiful things about landscape architecture is the diversity of people and projects we encounter.
Our residential designs are very site specific and celebrate a sense of place. We try to make the most sensible use of the climates and typography in every project we undertake. It is always better to work with nature than against it. Through our designs, we strive to create an environment that will entice the client to enjoy their home landscape often and thoroughly.
At BMD, we love designing "all of the elements and structures of the fine garden". We believe in creating unique outdoor spaces that include many varied built elements: arbors, decks, gates, fountains, outdoor entertainment areas, ponds, small outdoor buildings, swimming pools & spas, trellises, terraces, and walls.
At BMD, we take great pride in every aspect of the design process including design graphics. We strive to produce accurate, beautiful, and easy to read drawings for our clients and project team members. We are very knowledgeable in the latest 3D and computer animation software for public presentation projects.

I highly respect Bill Mellett and his tree experts such as Carlos Garcia, who are honest and trustworthy with their opinions and cost. I highly recommend this arborist and Carlos over others who have given hugely different expensive quotes compared to them. I wouldn't trust anyone else in Ojai. Bless those who are honest!
