And it's a good thing that we do! Every time you enjoy a warm fire in your fireplace, "creosote" slowly builds up in your chimney. Creosote is a flammable material that occurs when wood is burned. Creosote can be black, brown or grey and can be flaky, crusty or shiny and hardened. All forms of creosote are flammable and with sufficient quantities built up and high enough chimney temperatures, the result can be a fire.
Our chimney inspection services strongly recommend annual inspections for chimneys for fireplaces and woodstoves to be clear of creosote deposits. Annual inspections will also address any damage, cracking and necessary repairs on the interior and/or exterior of the fireplace. I was extremely impressed with Black Goose. They were thorough, professional, and took time to answer all of my questions and concerns. This is a company that I would highly recommend and will definitely use in the future for any of the services they offer. If you are looking for the cheapest in town, probably check elsewhere, but if you are looking for the best, then look no further.

I've been around for a few years and have hired many folks for various work projects and fix ups. Never have I felt so scammed as dealing with these folks. You hear and read about people being taken advantage of by contractors, but never thought I would fall as ones prey. This company's business model is based on taking advantage of people. I really don't understand all the positive reviews. I paid $500 for at the end of the day absolutely nothing except for a half bucket of fine ash swept from the chimney. They did make repair recommendations that were over 100% higher than the next highest estimate

We are very happy with Black Goose. When doing an estimate for installation of a chimney cap they found our chimney was slightly loose. They recommended having this repaired before installing the cap, since a cap would cause stress on the structure in high winds, and may cause the chimney to break away from the house. They could have installed the cap, taken our money, and never mentioned the problem to us, which could have caused major damage to our house. We appreciate their honesty!!

Black Goose Chimney provided great customer service. From booking the 2 appointments to the finished jobs, they were communicative, on time, and professional. Richard and Noah did a great job inspecting and sweeping the chimney. It had reeked when the sun hit it and when it rained. Noah cleared out a ton of pine needles, soot, and a dead animal that had gotten trapped. By the time they left, Noah resembled a chimney sweep from Mary Poppins.
Richard and Mason returned the next week to install chimney caps, and clean the gutters since they were already up there. The caps are keeping out the rain

The Black Goose team installed a stainless steel liner, cage and cap, repaired brick and mortar, added a protective coating and custom fitted and sealed the ventilation ducts for furnace and water heater. The work was completed before the projected time and it was thorough, precise and fairly priced. They were professional and addressed all my questions and concerns. I am very satisfied with my new chimney and happy that I chose them do the work. I would highly recommend Black Goose.

I cannot recommend Black Goose Chimney Sweep enough! Richard and the whole team were incredibly knowledgeable, thorough, friendly and professional. Really great guys! They took the time to explain everything that needed to be addressed with detailed pictures of the exterior of our chimney. They did a phenomenal job capping both chimneys, replacing the flashing and coating the brick. They even found a dead squirrel that another local company missed! We will definitely utilize their services again in the future.

We used Black Goose for an inspection and cleaning of our chimney and looked at options for upgrading to a wood stove insert. Noah and Taylor were great to work with. They were on time, professional and very personable. Really nice guys who know their trade. We were able to look at insert options and make comparisons on value and heat output. The inserts are really attractive, and Black Goose sells and installs them. We’ll see these guys again in November when they come back to do the install and tutorial. That’s customer service. Professional, competent, and courteous, arrived promptly at appointment time, what else can I say. They were fast and thorough at the task of sweeping the chimney out for my main wood burner. Excellent quality work. Our house has 4 separate chimneys, and we were having issues with birds and wasps nesting. Sometimes we killed as many as 75 wasps per day in the house during the fall. Black Goose recommended exterior dampers which seemed to have solved the problem. Their workers arrived exactly when promised. Highly recommended.

Black Goose Chimney Sweep just did work on our chimney. We were getting an awful odor in our family room from the fireplace, especially when it rained. Black Goose put a clean out door outside and another damper at the top of our chimney to prevent rain/etc. from entering. Apparently, there were dozens of dead birds in the chimney, so everything was cleaned and deodorized. We are very pleased with the work and felt the price was reasonable for all that was done. The smell seems to be gone (Hurray!!). We will know for sure the next time we have a heavy rain.

We recently purchased a house on Smith Mountain Lake, and Black Goose Chimney Sweeps did the chimney inspection. They noted a small problem at the top of the chimney that needed to be fixed at some point in the future. They also noted that the flue appeared clean enough not to need any cleaning at that point. I consider that incredibly honest. They probably figured I wouldn't be climbing on the roof to do my own inspection, and they could have easily cleaned the chimney and charged me for it. Wow. I haven't even had them come out yet, but I did call and have to redo my appt because i couldn't get off work. The receptionist was one of the rudest I've ever spoken too, and I kept having to ask her questions. Get a new job if you hate it that much. I'll update my review AFTER they actually come out. I have a feeling I wont be using them if the are anything like her.
