Oyster Bay Drafting and Architecture, P.C. was established in 1989 by Dennis Mele and Scott Kahn as a specific response to a growing need in the field of architecture; to provide low cost, professionally prepared plans and specifications to consumers who knew what they wanted and how to do it but just needed a little help in getting there.
First we set up an in home free consultation to discuss your design criteria and needs. During this meeting we will offer many ideas to make you project beautiful, functional and keeping it within budget. After discussing your project we will give you a flat fee estimate to prepare the architectural preliminary drawings, construction documents and Town or Village building permit filing process.
Most renovation and construction projects require that a building permit be obtained from the Town, City or Village in which you live. In order to obtain these permits you must submit construction documents prepared by a licensed architectural professional. These plans must show in a clear manner the details for building the project.
Sometimes homeowners have constructed entire projects without obtaining the necessary approvals from the local Municipality. They may have even been unaware that a permit was needed for such a small thing as a deck, shed or fence. You may have performed the work yourself or inherited the problem from the previous owner.

I would highly recommend Scott Kahn and everyone at Oyster Bay Drafting/Architects. They are very professional, and for someone like myself with little experience with town permits and plans, etc., of the three architects I dealt with in preparation for this project, they were the only one willing to take the time and explain the process, they helped me with Town filings, and their originally filed plans were just approved by the Town and permits have been issued. We had a garage fire that involved an upstairs bathroom and room that would have had to go before the variance board had Scott not have been able to salvage what was left of the structure. He not only did that, but everyone of his recommendations was stellar. Even the building inspector had good things to say!

We had one of their architect come in to a home we were purchasing. The house had a fire so there walls are opened and the kitchen is completely demolished. They took measurements and photos. Even with what they had, it took them 3-4 emails back and forth to change the plans because it was incorrect. Windows were added to the plans where there weren’t any windows. Closets were missing in the drawings. Closets in bedrooms were not placed where they were. And much more. This was a simple plan drawing - we need the drawings to show as is. It was a complex transition of a historic home built in the 1750's made into a transformed, updated but yet classic colonial with all the modern amenities one could want. I needed plans done for my new 2 car garage, they completed them quickly. The Owner Scott notified me in advance that I would need a Variance and actually attended the Zoning Board of Appeals and won my case. I could not have done it without them and their professionalism.
