As a family-owned lumberyard and building supply company rooted right here in Rhode Island, we've been building trust with generations of professional builders and contractors, architects and homeowners alike. Along the way, we've invested in the beauty, quality and economic viability of our community, while establishing our legacy of great products, personalized service and industry know-how.
We're proud of our history and continued commitment to offering premium product choices and advice at the best prices you'll find anywhere. Founded in 1885 by Peleg Durfee Humphrey and Captain Nathaniel B. Church, P.D. Humphrey Co. has proudly served our community's lumber, building material, hardware, heating and painting needs for more than 100 years.
From 1885 to 1956, we operated on Riverside Drive in Tiverton. The Sakonnet River location was ideal because our coal shipments were delivered by barge, and much of the lumber came from Maine and Florida via schooner. The P.D. Humphrey dock was the hub of waterfront activity and community interest for years.

I have worked with several contractors in different states, and Humphreys is by far the best one! Truly excellent customer service from Dan Caron (the sales rep) and expert window installations by Alex and Ed. Humphreys sells high quality products and stands by them. I would highly recommend this company to anyone.

Don't bother going there for simple household hardware like curtain rods. They are too stuck up to carry anything like that. The guy I asked for help first sent me to the wrong aisle, then another guy said"We don't carry anything like that." Too bad, lost a customer who needs alot of building supplies. My house needs a complete rebuild.

Yesterday I went to Humphreys looking for wood for my deck. There’s so much I didn’t know and one employee named Rich helped me out. He went above and beyond what most would do making sure the wood was securely placed in my car. He even put a little red flag in the piece extending beyond the trunk. I am very impressed with his helpfulness.

I wanted to replace two windows on the second floor of our home. I wasn't sure of the size. I was directed to talk to one of the salesmen.
That salesmen told me he would stop by our home in an hour. He arrived climbed up onto my staging took the measurements and placed the order.
Because the fit was spot on I had no trouble installing the two windows and have been in service for over five years trouble free.
What was done to sell two windows was so much more than I could have expected. Try getting that kind of service from Home Depot or Lowes.

A miscommunication between my nice general contractor and me led to a big, expensive problem involving the wrong style of interior doors purchased through Humphrey's Building Supply in Tiverton RI. Owner Scott Humphrey said he'd do his very best to help me in this situation but in a very considerate manner braced me for bad news: the door manufacturer almost never took back their doors, even unopened, still-in-original packaging, mint condition doors.
Scott was supportive, thoughtful, and positive, getting right into solving the problem - the best customer service ever. It turns out that it was

I purchased a 16' piece of lumber here on 11-2-2017. I informed the clerk that I was driving my car and I needed it cut in half to fit into my car. After I paid for it using a charge card, I saw and extra charge of .50 for a "milling fee" to cut the lumber in half. I almost wanted to cancel the order but then again I pick my battles. I will never be back!

I had a clam door installed and while I love the door, dealing with Humphrey's was a challenge. They happily cashed my deposit but then took weeks to install the door. There's still a small leak that needs to be sealed that I've emailed, texted and called about. There's always an excuse about the weather. This project has been going on since March. I have given up. Then, I recently received an email from a different salesman asking if I wanted an estimate. I'm truly not sure where that came from! So- long and short- love the Clam Door but I would be hesitant to recommend
