Marcus started out working for his father, Joe Hoone who founded Grass Roots in 1983. Joe instilled the work ethic and dedication to the principal of taking care of each customer as he would want to be taken care of. Marcus went on to study at Purdue University with the goal of eventually taking over the reigns of the family business.
That succession happened in 2008 and Grass Roots has maintained its supurb level of customer service ever since! In his spare time, Marcus enjoys family camping trips, traveling with his wife, any and all activities with his kids, as well as hunting and fishing. He is also an avid racing fan, particularly sprint cars.
Grass Roots has the pleasure of sponsoring Hopkins Racing and driver AJ Hopkins starting in 2017. Abby has spent the last 12 years working as a RN in adult & pediatric ICUs, ERs and Emergency Medical Helicopter transport with LifeLine as well as raising her children. Abby and Marcus married in 2015 and combined her 3 children with his 3 children.

Those eggs will hatch out and will become the damaging white grubs that we want to prevent! Grubs damage the yard by chewing off the root systems of the grass plants in widespread areas. These areas of damage can be up to 10-20 feet in diameter! These areas will turn brown becasue the roots system is damaged to the point that it kills the grass in that area.
One of the best ways that we can revitalize a lawn-really make it thick and healhty is to. Core aerating relieves compacted soil (which roots do not grow well in) and loosens the soil to create the perfect enviroment for the roots to really thrive. Following this up with overseeding, using a Premium Blend of Turf Seed, fills in the thin gaps in the lawn and gives you a more lush and thick appearance that is a real wow factor!
Our 3 Step Perimeter Spray Program provides an effective barrier preventing crawling insects from coming into your home all year long. It is a very cost effective alternative to a comprehensive pest control company's program. In most cases, this program is just as effective but at a fraction of the cost!
Marcus is awesome! We bought a property that the lawn had not been maintained since at least 2012 and it showed. Marcus met with us and discussed a plan of action. He promptly returned to begin treatment of our mostly crabgrass lawn. The results by the end of fall were great. Neighbors were stopping by to talk to us about how much we had done with the lawn in such a short amount of time.

Just finished the last treatment of the year with Grass Roots Lawn Service and after two years of care and maintenance, I can assure you that Marcus does a fantastic job. He’s taken our yard from shabby to beautiful in the time we’ve worked together. Marcus is dedicated, incredibly knowledgable, and is a friendly guy who stands by his work. Beyond happy with his service.

I purchased a 5 treatment plan and paid in advance. That was a big mistake. I had to constantly send emails to ask about when they were coming. Also, I had the biggest weeds I have ever had while using this company. I sent an email to Marcus and asked if I could get my money back for the last two treatments. He said he would send a check in the mail but I never received it. I would not recommend this company for your lawn care needs.

I've done my own lawn servicing for almost 40 years using the top-end "S" brand products.
This year I switched to Grass Roots Lawn Service and based on how my lawn looks so far I will NEVER go back to doing it myself!
Marcus is extremely professional, knowledgeable and respectful of our wishes related to our dogs and the lawn. I am looking forward to a complete year of a great looking lawn - thanks Marcus!

Marcus has done an amazing job keeping our yard absolutely beautiful and weed free. He has also made grass grow where we once thought nearly impossible. Marcus is also very flexible and has worked around our schedules many times. It would be hard to find a more honest, hardworking, reliable and cost-efficient lawn service. Our neighborhood loves him and his work!

I'm so happy we went with Grass Roots! Marcus is very kind and personable and takes pride in his work. Our yard has the GREENEST grass on the block because he uses superior product. When he came out to aerate and seed, I was unable to move our soccer goal, hoses, and a few other things in the yard. He moved all the things and didn't even mention it; I was so grateful!

We contacted Grass Roots early this Spring for a quote on lawn fertilization and possible aeration. Marcus was prompt to respond and provided a lot of helpful information to help us understand the problems our lawn was facing and the best time of year for the different solutions. We came out for an estimate in person and provided a thorough estimate by email within just a few hours. They have just completed the second service and we are already receiving compliments on the improved health of our lawn.
