GardenArt Group
During the last 35 years our projects have spanned a wide range of styles reflecting California's unique culture and climate, including 50's-inspired Eichler Home remodels, wineries, sophisticated San Francisco rooftops and naturalistic habitat gardens. Our philosophy of garden design is that, no matter how formal or informal, gardens should connect people with the real world of earth, water, seasons and change.

We have a wide network of fellow professionals we can recommend for our projects, from building architects to skilled craftspersons, artists, and landscape contractors.

This is just one section of a larger Woodside garden that we designed. There were problems with this part of the garden, so we decided to turn it into a succulent and cactus garden instead. We shut off the irrigation, and only occasionally hand-watered plants for the first year or so. Several years have passed, and it needs no water at all.
Our friend and associate Ruben Mendoza of Garden Delights Landscaping recommended us for this project. This was a neglected property hidden in the brush just off one of the nicest residential streets in Palo Alto. Once the house emerged from many years of horticultural neglect, we were presented with an unusual opportunity to help our clients turn this sadly run down historic structure into the house and garden of their dreams.
When we first created this garden, we were struck by the impressive size and number of palms in the garden. We had been called in to create a drought-tolerant garden where there had formerly been a large lawn joining the entry and the swimming pool.
This was an extensive garden remodel of an older garden. Our goals were to make the garden less formal, and more bee and bird friendly. We added a second pavilion for outdoor dining, an informal patio close to the kitchen, and two water features for birds both front and back. The plantings were changed over to informal grasses and perennials, and we added raised beds for veggies and cut flowers.
This historic spanish revival home had just been lifted in order to create an underground-level studio space. Since all traces of the old garden had been destroyed, we were able to start from scratch. This artist's work is very spare, and we chose to create a garden with a similar vibe. We wanted the garden to remain open to the street, and yet private.

Chris was fantastic to work with. From design consultation to implementation, Chris took care of our yard and made sure everything fell in place perfectly. He made our lives easy coordinating with the implementation team, picking up plans for us and consulting how to take care of the plants once they were all in.

We are so happy with our backyard which serves as a lovely retreat for us.

Chris is extremely knowledgeable and passionate about gardening. He listened to our needs and gave us a lot of tips on our initial consultation on how to maintain a beautiful yet drought tolerant garden. He genuinely cares for climate change. He helped us pick the right plants for the right areas. He is certainly not the person who is looking to give you whatever you ask for and make quick $$. I highly recommend Chris for anyone who is looking for drought tolerant landscaping.

I met and hired Garden Art Group consultancy recently. I had the privilege to meet the owner Chris J. and what struck me most about him was his professionalism and knowledge about landscape and gardening.

I hired him not really sure what I wanted with my garden and he gave me a plethora of ideas and help me make the best and most cost-effective decisions.

If you're looking for a trust- worthy and competent landscape professional / consultant , I would like to personally recommend Chris J.

We are extremely pleased with the results of our two hour design and concept session. I highly recommend this one-time service as a great first step for any significant project. Chris listened to our thoughts, came up with great ideas, and produced a wonderful and functional sketch that we're using as the basis for our project....all in a few hours. It is fun to participate in the creative process, especially with such an experienced artist. We are excited to work with Chris to implement it, but there is no pressure to do so. In any case, the sketch is ours and has been useful to visualize

Chris is incredibly talented and has great vision for landscape design. I am so thrilled with the plans that he drew for me, I felt compelled to leave a YELP review. He really heard what my husband and I were after and designed a plan to meet all our needs. I have just recently rebuilt my entire home, and know that there would be no wow factor compared to making sure the landscape is done well. I can't wait to implement and highly recommend him!
