Your Santa Cruz, Monterey Bay and San Francisco Bay Area Destination for all of your rug care needs. Artisan Fine Rug Care is a family business exclusively dedicated to hand washing and repair of handcrafted and fine area rugs. We take great pride in the individual attention given to each piece by our lead rug technician, Aaron, and the superior results that follow.
Before the formation of Artisan, Aaron received his training and worked for many years for one of the world's preeminent textile conservators. He has cared for rugs from museums, important rug collections, celebrities, world-renowned designers and many prominent rug dealers. Aaron has cleaned thousands of rugs, primarily oriental and other collectible rugs.
Artisan's philosophy is to take no risks with our clients' valued rugs. We do not subject them to harsh methods, heat, nor machines and wringers - all of the work is done by hand. As such, we are able to specialize in antique, silk and other challenging carpets. We also offer professional repair.

Services
Your antique or modern handknotted rug is a work of art and thus should be treated as such. Repairs by the same artisans who have restored textiles for the DeYoung, The Smithsonian and other important collections - over 40 years combined experience. So whether you need just a spring cleaning for your favorite rug or ongoing cleaning and storage support for your personal collection, we have a program tailored to your needs.
It's one of the ironies of owning a fine handmade rug. It takes an experienced artisan hundreds of hours to create a beautiful hand knotted rug. Even the casual observer can clearly tell it's a work of art. Yet the minute you place it on the floor it's destined for a lifetime of wear and tear. But we don't expect you to stop walking on your rug, after all, that's what they were made for.

I had an old rug that I thought was pretty much gone. I took it to Artisan and they got all the stains out and it looked like it had came back to life. I also took a smaller (cheap) inexpensive rug there and it was treated the same way. Aaron is easy to work with. He is also like a walking encyclopedia of rug history. Thank you Artisan!!!

My experience with Aaron at Artisan Rugs has been phenomenal! I have taken numerous rugs in to be cleaned, and have been pleased with the exceptional service. The rugs have come back to me sanitized , and cleaned, on time, at a reasonable price. I highly recommend Aaron, for all your rug cleanings.

We had a very nice antique rug. We took it somewhere else and they said they couldn't clean it because it wouldn't go through there process well. Then I heard about Artisan from a friend and took it there. Aaron (owner, operator), did an amazing job and did everything by hand. The rug came out bright, softer and clean. Take your rugs here if you value them!

I had a very expensive Persian Rug cleaned by this company . At first, I was hesitant as I didn't want to have my rug damaged . I decided to take a chance and I am glad . The cleaning was done well and I was very happy with the service. I would highly recommend this to everyone in need of rug cleaning .

I have taken three rugs here and have had excellent results and service every time. They even took care of a limited rare Polish tapestry rug that was an important family heirloom, saving it from pet stains and a nasty moth infestation so that we could display it and enjoy it in our home again. Customer service was friendly and professional, and it seems clear that they truly have a good understanding of how to treat and care for fine rugs.

Artisan worked with me from start to finish on a large crewel tapestry that needed to be cleaned and fitted with a velcro strip for proper mounting. They were friendly, informative, and did great work for me at a reasonable price. They evidently take pleasure in working with fine textiles and with their customers.

Many thanks to Chris and Margaret: I had two rugs cleaned and they look like brand new now! I really want to thank them both for going the extra mile and for providing excellent customer service! I LOVE MY RUGS!
I have two more rugs to be cleaned and I will be using Artisan in the very near future.
Kudos to Chris and Margaret for their friendly, humorous and professional demeanor.

This place is truly the best ~ Very friendly and extremely knowledgeable. I had been nervous about having someone clean a beloved wool rug of mine. The second I came in, I was greeted by Margaret who explained their process. Immediately my mind was put at ease and knew I had come to the right place.
Rug came out perfect and Very timely, thank you so much!

I have been collecting persian and other handwoven rugs since the 1970's. I am very careful about who cleans them and the process used to clean them. It really matters with good rugs, especially the older ones.
We have been using Artisan happily for awhile. And they recently went above and beyond when we had 6 large hand made carpets cleaned and stored because we were having our floors redone in a renovation. I had to change dates a number of times and they are always cheerful and accomodating.
Their cleaning technique is the best for fine rugs and the results are wonderful.

Margaret and Aaron not only did a great job with our carpets, but also took a lot of stress out of our move. At first I thought being in Watsonville, it would probably not work given the proximity, but they made it happen. They picked up 5 of our rugs in Saratoga, cleaned them perfectly, delivered 3 to San Francisco and wrapped the other 2 in archive wrap for storage. It was all done within a week. Not only that they are very knowledgable about carpets. I would definitely use them again.

We had two large area rugs and two runners shipped cross country to CA. They had been in our family for over 20 years and really needed a good cleaning. Margert and Aaron are a pleasure to work with and responded to all my questions when I called. I would say the best part was having Aaron help decide where we should put the rugs. He took his time, didn't rush me, and even indulged our 6 month old puppy. I used Artisan based on their Yelp reviews and I was not disapointed.

Wonderful family owned business that caters to handmade rug owners. I am a rug collector and I have had several Persian & Uzbek rugs cleaned and repaired at Artisan.
Aaron and Margaret are very friendly, honest, and knowledgeable. If they cannot clean a rug because of a dye bleed or stain, they will tell you before hand (no charge).
Two textiles I took to them (an old gabbeh tribal rug and old Kazakh sumak) were covered in dirt and stains. The pieces cleaned up so beautifully that I could barely recognize them! One Kashan Persian rug I took in had three small tears and Aaron patched it

They care about your rug, they know what they are talking about, and they listen to what you want.
I took a very nice rug to get it cleaned. I got it from my folks (originally bought in Iran) and it gets much rougher treatment than its quality deserves. It had color bleed and a missing section (~2") of fringe on one side. Above the basic cleaning cost, I wanted to do as much as possible to fix the problems without spending more than about $100 extra. Other vendors I talked to would (at best) do a machine-made patch. the folks at Artisan gave me an overview of the options and then said
