SGM Scott Mayer began operating heavy equipment for the Army National Guard and learned how to build roads, dams, and airstrips on a very large scale. We apply those earthmoving principles today on a much smaller scale with the same high standards.
Combine his mother's gardening influence at an early age, his training and talent, along with Mayer's own appreciation for outdoor living and gardening spaces, and in 2007 Horizontal Earthworks was launched.Our seasonal employees are college students who are mostly pursuing degrees in engineering or business and are eager to learn "the getting your hands dirty" side of the business.

My wife and I first hired Horizontal Earthworks about 5 years ago to fix a large brick front porch that another contractor had messed up. They also fix parts of our brick walkway. They did a fantastic job so we just hired them again to put in a concrete patio and a rock retaining wall. Just like before they did a fantastic job. Becky their on-site job foreman was really great along with the rest of the crew. Can't recommend them enough and will definitely hire them for future projects.

I want thank the landscaping team at Horizonal Earth works for our new hard scape patio and fire place. It turn out beautiful and we have been getting a lot of uses out of the patio and fireplace. Have found outdoor fireplace is the only way to go, you and your guest don't smell like smoke at the end of evening, all smoke is divert up the stack. It really adds a touch of class to the back yard.

What a great company and fantastic crew! They performed such great work, and totally revamped my backyard. I can now host people over and feel proud of my yard! I think what I loved most was the friendliness of their crews. My grandson came over one day when they were working and he was sooo fascinated with their excavator. Their foreman was running it, and she took the time to shut it off so that he could come outside and look at it. He was thrilled to say the least!! A great group of people who are well versed in the trade. Weather its drainage solutions or a patio you are after, Horizontal Earthworks can see the project through to its completion and can do so above the industry standard. They complete many jobs that do not fall directly under landscaping so be sure to give them a call next time you are looking for some excellent work.

I had Scott and his crew do a retaining wall for me and now all my neighbors want his number! The timeliness, workmanship, communication and value was topnotch. I cannot say enough about the job they did. What Ole Ben Franklin said still holds true today: "The bitterness of poor quality remains, long after the sweetness of a low price is forgotten!" There is always some yahoo that will come out and stack some rocks on top of each other for a few bucks less, but if you want something done right, for the right price, give Scott a call......

Scott and crew were very professional and efficient. Took the time to properly install water draining system in our yard. We had freestanding water that caused multiple problems, now over a year after they completed the project we’ve had no issues! We were quoted multiple prices and this one was the best, we are extremely happy with the choice to go with horizontal earthworks!

I made the unfortunate mistake of hiring Horizontal Earthworks for landscaping work on my property. For the amount of money that I paid them to have the work done ($3800), I assumed that I was hiring a team of professional landscapers. Instead, I was surprised to find out that Horizontal Earthworks employs a group of very low wage college kids that spend as much time standing around goofing off (I was able to record them on my Ring security camera) as they do working, often entirely unsupervised.
