Dwyer Hardwoods distributes three main types of hardwood decking: ipe, garapa and red balau. Ipe (also known as Brazilian Walnut) is the standard for hardwood decking and the hardest wood you'll find. Our Ipe decking is available in 1x4, 5/4x4, 1x6 and 5/4x6. We also offer ipe 2x stock, 6x6 and various other sizes. Garapa decking is known for its warm tone and closely resembles the look of teak, but has the solid performance of a tropical hardwood.
We do all of our own CAD drawing and modeling in-house and can match or create any profile you have in mind. The architect wanted the staircase to be a showpiece and requested 3" thick white oak treads with 4" thick stringers. These radius baseboard pieces were made for an historic renovation in the Narragansett Pier area.
These aluminum arms were eventually bolted together to form a "ceiling wave" designed by a local artist. The customer did not want standard returns on her sapele handrails, and we were able to use our CNC to profile the ends. Putting the finishing touches on a large order of cedar brackets for a home in Jamestown, Rhode Island.

I am still shocked that I can get A+ quality domestic hardwood only 15 minutes from my house in West Kingston. Although primarily geared twords contractors, I was amazed when I visited for the first time and one of the owners showed me to the lumber rack and said PLEASE take your time and look through the stacks to find exactly what you need and come get me when you are ready to load up. He left me alone for almost an hour to pull out every board in the rack and

I build weird birdhouses and random pieces of furniture with reclaimed and 'upcycled' wood and other bits. These guys had everything I needed. At last trip, I picked up some heart pine that used to be in a Kentucky factory and pieces of mahogany crates they came across in an old warehouse in Boston.
Sometimes I go there knowing what I need, but more often than not, they have something there that inspires. It helps that they're local too and a great bunch of people.
Great place!
