Roberta Walker Landscape Design
Whether you are starting from scratch, a plot of bare earth, or renovating an existing landscape, it all begins with the design. We are a landscape design firm that creates lush, sustainable gardens that have low water needs & require very little maintenance; our designs are both habitat and people friendly.

A landscape designer from Northern California, Roberta Walker has been featured in Sunset magazine and has been in segments of HGTV's "Gardening by the Yard" as well as the documentary "Becoming California." A designer of more than 1,000 gardens, she was on the 2010 design team for Sacramento's Habitat for Humanity that received the National Green Build Award for their energy- and water-efficient homes.

Walker has developed design methods and a large plant palate for what she calls the "New Landscape"-a drought-tolerant, bird and butterfly friendly garden that requires little water or maintenance yet gives beauty, texture and an ever-changing tapestry of color throughout the year. Kimberly Marshall has an education in Environmental Horticulture with a degree in Landscape Design and Nursery Practice.

Are you interested in installing your own drought-free landscape, but aren't sure where to begin? These videos are an excellent resource, whether you plan to do-it-yourself or work with a landscape designer. This DVD is a great guide and the first step in deciding the options for your new landscape.
I've been asked many times, "do you deal with small spaces?" Clients are worried that their job may be too small for me and not worth my time. But the fact is I LOVE SMALL SPACES! So much can be done to optimize a small space without breaking the bank. In the photos you can see how small the space is, but when it is re-designed, it looks bigger and more open.
March has definitely come in like a Lion! It was iffy for a while when we went a few weeks without rain and the temperatures were up to 70 degrees F! What this means is that we will have a beautiful blooming Spring! Our summers have 0 rainfall. What does this mean? It means that if you want a colorful landscape you'll need to use shrubs and perennials that not only can take the heat, but enjoy it!
The door that you can see in the photo is a second unit. When I was asked to do a drought tolerant landscape design for this house (and granny unit), my client wanted something with color but was easy to maintain. She wanted to create a natural border between her and her rental unit. The focus from her living room became the Basalt fountain in the foreground.

Roberta Walker returned the call right away. Her colleague Kimberly worked with us on a design and had a list of quality landscapers to recommended. Not only did the design incorporate all the elements we hoped for, but Kimberly was on site during the planting to inspect the plants and make sure everything was done according to plan. The design team far exceeded our expectations. We can’t thank them enough.

Roberta did an EXTREMELY AWESOME design for my new front yard. She is very personable and paid attention to every detail I talked about upon our initial meeting. The landscape came out EXACTLY...(and even MORE THAN) I imagined it to be. Thank you Roberta for enlightening me about plants and landscape design. It's my new LOVE!!!
