From the initial beginnings of saving and storing old-growth rough fescue grasslands from the new Mansion Heights development in the Missoula Valley, Native Yards has grown into a full scale plant business, providing design and installation of natural landscapes and hardscapes; removing unwanted plants from 1 lot to 10,000 acre plots, and replacing those with desired native species, via our custom seed mixes or with fully grown individuals.

The plants native to the intermountain prairies and forests common in our region are adapted to low moisture and nutrient conditions. Native Yard's specialty is to install or modify a landscape to look as natural as possible. We do this by using native plants that would be found within a few hours' drive of Missoula; utilizing hardscape to add topography and dimension to the landscape; and by adding special features such as fire-hardened wood and lichen boulders into the design, just as you might see on a walk through Pattee Canyon, Mount Jumbo, or the Bitterroot Mountains.
Challenge: Re-built riverbanks, areas impacted by mining, and other disturbances in the natural landscape need to be restored to their pre-disturbance condition. These areas can be 100ft or 1000 acres. Solution: Native Yards stabilizes the soil, applies diverse seed mixes, and installs plantings, from plugs and cuttings to 16'trees.
