Bringing my rugs to D.A. Burns was the worst customer experience of my life.
Originally, I messaged via Yelp for a quote. I made it clear (as shown in photos) that two of my rugs are from Lebanon. No prob, says DA Burns, they'll clean them.
I bring them in. Jim H. does my rug intake. He gets in a nice bit of mansplaining to me about how my rug is curled and I should take better care of it. I explain that it's very old and my father got it for me from Lebanon and that's it's handmade. He writes up the order for my rugs.
The day before I'm set to pick it up, the cleaning

I have used DA Burns over the last 20+ years for some special carpets. I have 3 large, hand-made Oriental rugs and I have always entrusted the care of those rugs to DA Burns. And I have never been disappointed.
They do special hand work, like turning under the fringe on the carpets to preserve them (yes, by hand...who knew?). I have a rambunctious puppy and he would make short work of the fringe and since the fringe is hand-woven into the rug itself, it is important to preserve it. They do an expert job on cleaning but that's not really the hard part of finding a company to care for handmade

I have a huge problem with vendors that are entirely opaque about their pricing upfront and expect customers to be okay with it when they're served huge invoices after the job is done.
I ordered cleaning services for my apartment, received no indication about how much this cleaning would be, not even an estimated range. Two days after the work was done I received an invoice for $600 for cleaning a 1-bedroom carpet, one sofa, and some other cushions
What upset me further was the tone used by their customer service reps when I called them to discuss my invoice. They were outright rude.

Even though my antique Navajo rug had some fraying & ink bleed prior to taking it to be cleaned, they were able to make it happen for a reasonable price. My pet had made it mark a couple times. When I brought it back after a deodorizing treatment & cleaning I was so surprised how soft & fresh it was! Extremely happy customer here. Even though my other one isn't dirty, I may just take it in too! Thank you so much.

I simply cannot say enough wonderful things about DA Burns. I have been a DA Burns customer ever since I moved to Seattle in 1993. To tell you how incredible DA Burns is. My carpet is 15 years old. I have it cleaned by DA Burns every 6 months since it was installed. I am not exaggerating when I say that at least once a month someone will say to me "you got new carpet, it is gorgeous". I spilled a cup of coffee on a noticeable section of carpet. Dalton from DA Burns came out the next day (Saturday) and did a fantastic job. The stain is gone.

I took our living room area rug in for cleaning. I was very careful to point out to the employee some dark stain spots in a dark area of the rug (so less obvious). I wasn't totally sure he was tracking but after going on about it I gave up. When I got it back, sure enough, the dark are had not been addressed, whereas they were successful at getting out a major stain in the light area. I think the person just wanted me to go away and stop bugging him. I have been to other cleaning places where they mark the areas with tape that the owner points out. I think they are very well set up for this

The grout in my bathroom had gotten so grimy over the years, which was shocking to me since we have a cleaning service come weekly and I know she washes it. Not only was Jason was able to clean the and reseal the grout, he showed me how to keep it looking brand new. He made sure that my pets were safe, he was kind and accommodating and he was careful in my space. He had to work very hard to get the grout clean and I was completely blown away by the results. When he was done, he even gave me a discount! I will always come back to DA Burns and request Jason for my grout/marble cleaning needs.

I needed a piece of carpet cut and edged to replace a soiled carpet that was custom made for my motorhome kitchen. I called and the were very helpful about my options. So I cut a piece of new left over carpet I had in the basement and then marked the outline from the old carpet. I brought it in, the said they would email me when done and about 5 days later I got the email. I picked it up and found they did a great job. It looks much better than the original that I replaced. And the price was very reasonable. Highly recommend D.A. Burns for carpet work.

I had to take a couch ottoman into DA Burns to get cleaned after my cat decided to treat it as a litter box. The employee who met with me let me know what to expect and explained very carefully the difficulty with cat urine (that it also bleaches the fabric as well as discoloring it) so I felt prepared that the ottoman would not come back looking like new.
I was pleasantly surprised when I picked it up a week later - it looks fantastic! I wish I had taken a before picture to show the difference but you can use your imagination.
All employees I interacted with were knowledgeable and friendly

Just had Jayson from D.A. Burns come and clean our 2 bedroom apartment and he did an excellent job! Came early, not too early, was finished quickly and was so friendly! Set up, cleaned, and packed up probably within one hour (granted our place is small). Did not cost much, and left us with some spot cleaner for future messes, all that we could ask for! Thankful for someone SO friendly and did not try to push other products/or services on us. Thank you Jayson!

Update: they refunded my money (they initially said they wouldn't, but after a mutually respectful 15-minute phone conversation they changed their mind) so that's cool I guess.
However, they tried to convince me that the dye loss was "a beautiful patina, very admired by rug owners" - which uh, if the dye faded naturally over several decades, sure. But when a color washes out over one wash, that's not a patina, that's a bad cleaning job. Nice try...

Changed to 4 stars based on their excellent customer service! Mike from D.A. Burns reached out to me a few days after I posted my review below. He was as surprised as I was that the binding on the rug has worn so badly so quickly, and promptly refunded me the cost of the service. I'm happy with that, since trying to redo it would just be too much hassle. Thank you Mike!

Update: I have changed this rating from 2 to 5 stars. Why? After this was posted I was contacted by Mike at DA Burns. After our discussion he came up with a solution that demonstrated that they were a bit embarrassed by what happened to me and that they really wanted to make this right. This is turning out to be a wonderful, positive experience that needs to be recognized and rewarded by trusting that they will get your next carpet related service done right.
