Adding two or more feature roof trusses, thereby creating extra height to the ceiling, is a fantastic and cost effective way to add value and character to your build. There are many different styles of feature truss, with each design having specific characteristics which work well in particular situations.
A Collar-Tie is where the tie-beam or bottom chord has been raised and jointed into the principle rafters to give more headroom. The trusses then sit onto the wall-plate and are fixed down with steel fixings. Our simple trusses that are built into some of the Pre-Designed Frames all use a collar tie, but without the King-Post.
A simple and elegant design where the principle rafters are each supported by a curved Queen Post. This negates the need for a King-Post and gives more useable space in the roof. Where possible, curved timbers are used for the Queen Posts, so that we can use the natural strength of the wood along it's grain.
The timbers are commonly exposed and therefore celebrated for their aesthetic form. Buildings have been constructed using these methods across the globe for centuries and have primarily remained the same, though are perhaps built a little quicker these days. Some modern designs, however, allow a fusion of traditional methods with modern materials resulting in an ever-widening palette of styles.
Through a collaborative process between you, the client; ourselves and a designer/architect, we will design and hand craft bespoke timber features for your new home or build project. Everything we build is specific to your project, drawing on our previous experience and centuries of tradition. Whether you're looking for a traditional, contemporary or ultra-modern feel, we can integrate your vision.
