He worked his way through the University of Dallas by sailing on rustbucket ships as a Merchant Marine Seaman, earning his Fine Arts degree in 1969. He commanded an infantry platoon as an officer with the First Marine Division in Vietnam and, surviving that, taught elementary school in British Columbia and southern California, which he also survived.

He did high-end custom cabinetry in Chicago until he returned to art and founded Googleplex in 1985. He lives in Evanston, a Chicago suburb, and spends his discretionary time making models, writing novels, overdoing Halloween, and spoiling his three grandchildren.

Since we work over the mural area in layers, it's important that we have free access to the whole surface. When the mural extends high off the floor, scaffolding and ladders are slow and cumbersome, while lift trucks and booms are much more efficient. For murals painted toward the end of new construction, scheduling is critical.
For three decades Googleplex has produced large-scale, photorealistic murals for zoos, museums, commercial sites, and others. I've admired Paul's mural work at the Peggy Notebaert Nature Museum for years. I thought I'd go out on a limb and try to find the artist behind the beautiful murals to see if he/she had any interested in doing a commission piece for my 3 year old daughter's bedroom in our new home. To my delight, Paul was interested.
