Roto-Rooter started business in York County in 1972. We have been locally owned and managed since 1977. The current owner started working for the York franchise in 1982, and purchased the business in 1997. We are a small business that strives to live by the Golden Rule of treating others in the way we would want to be treated.

In 1933, Samuel Blanc created a funny-looking sewer cleaning machine from a 1/6 HP Maytag washing machine motor, roller skate wheels and 3/8 cable to turn the blades. The device used a combination of special blades or "knives" to cut tree roots out of sewer lines. No digging was required. A year later, Sam's wife Lettie christened the prototype the "Roto-Rooter."
We clean sewers, sinks, tubs, showers, floor drains, toilets, urinals, condensation drains, pump and sump pump lines and pits, vents, traps, kitchen and dishwasher drains, laundry lines and tubs, pit drains, trench drains, home vacuum lines, spring and pond supply and overflow lines, pretty much any drain in your home or on your property we can clean!

It kills only the roots it comes in contact with and does not harm pipes, septic systems or the rest of the plant or tree outside of pipes. Annual RootX treatments keep your plumbing system root free and will help avoid costly sewer line and septic tank repairs.
Roots from trees and shrubs frequently find their way into drain lines and sewer pipes through extremely small cracks, holes or poorly sealed joints. These tiny root hairs-if not properly controlled-can continue to grow inside your lines, blocking water flow and even causing the pipes to break. Worst of all, once these roots grow in a specific direction, they'll continue to grow back in that same direction-causing similar blockage problems later.

Great service. I called 3 different companies on a Saturday for a clogged sewage line, and Roto was the only one who responded (all 3 listed emergency weekend service as an option). I’m still waiting on the other 2 companies to call me back.
Tech was great (Glenn). He spent extra time making sure to vacuum up the leakage in the basement, but didn’t charge extra.

Had a different company out who couldn’t exactly identify the issue but had a plan for us to spend thousands to tear up our floors and walls to fix the issue. Called Roto Rooter who promptly came out, correctly identified the problem and was able to clear our drains without tearing our house apart. Couldn’t be happier and will go to them first in the future.

Have a blockage in main sewer line.. originally called at 8am was told a guy would be out same day if not tomorrow morning, never received a call that day so I called the office. Was told I'm next in line and the plumber that was finishing up would call within the hour... never called.. it's now the second day I havent heard anything so I called at 11am, was told 2 people were in front of me, cancelled the appt. Gotta love those tradesman I tell ya.

A service tech named Mike showed up and performed a professionally done job, and in a timely manner. He was very friendly, and also willing to let me watch him perform his duties, to which he was also very informative to what he was doing. Appreciated very much the quick and punctual service completed. The best part... the sigh of relief to a couple hundred and some dollars versus what I thought may have been a thousand bucks or more. Job well done Mike. You guys got me as an added customer. Thanks so much.

Cody came out and did a great job getting my clog cleared up. They were also very fast after I called they were calling me back in a hour saying they were on the way. Great service and even warranty the work. Will definitely recommend and wish I had known before paying a normal.plumber who couldnt get the job done.
