Lanning Architecture is an innovative general interest architecture firm located in Tucson Arizona. We emphasize a "process", rather than a style, working closely with our clients to arrive at elegant solutions that work for everyone involved. We provide some measure of green or sustainable architecture in every project and utilize many of the "alternative" building materials and systems.
We primarily work in residential design and at times offer services for commercial and other work as well. We enjoy designing new houses, remodels and additions to existing residences. Our firm's emphasis is two-fold: providing creative solutions to projects in mid-town and downtown Tucson and in Tucson's Historic Districts; and designing custom homes all over southern Arizona, in small communities, the foothills of the Catalina Mountains, and rural areas.

Services
My name is Bob Lanning and I live in downtown Tucson, and run the architectural firm Lanning Architecture. My wife and business partner, Kate Hiller, works as a designer in our firm. We have a son named Cole who attends University High School. I came to Tucson in 1979 to attend the University of Arizona and received my Architecture degree in 1984.
Lanning Architecture offers extensive services to a wide range of clients. We most often offer what is typically called "full services" for architectural projects. These include schematic design, construction documents, bidding and negotiating, and construction administration. Schematic design is essentially the "design" part of the project where the vision is starting to take shape.
The architectural process begins with an introductory meeting with the clients. Some clients bring a lot to the table, including sketches, photographs, floor plans, or ideas; others have only vague notions of what they might be looking for. Either way, with our primary focus on the architect and client relationship, we have tremendous faith in a design process that will result in complete client satisfaction.
Bob and Kate's own residence was built in 2000 in the Santa Rosa neighborhood in downtown Tucson. We pushed the residence to one side of a small urban lot to create a large courtyard between the house and an adjacent antique ca. 1911 adobe guesthouse. The main entry is into the courtyard to create the feeling of an outdoor room.

Lanning is definitely not your ordinary architecture firm! Our company has collaborated with them on the mechanical end of numerous projects over the years, most recently with Ezra and Stephen. The attention to detail among Bob Lanning and the entire staff is truly amazing. We work with a number of architects, but Lanning definitely stands out with their creativity and innovation during the entire process. The custom home solutions they design for their clients are both elegant and sustainable, and typically include the utilization of alternative building materials and systems. I've met with a
