Southern Scapes is a full-service landscaping company serving Harrisonburg and surrounding areas. Southern Scapes LLC is owned and operated by Karena and Chris Mathias. Chris holds a degree in Landscape and Turf Management from Virginia Tech. He manages landscape design and operations while Karena manages the business side of Southern Scapes.
Chris' interest in horticulture and landscaping began as a young boy when he helped his mother operate her plant nursery. As football player at Broadway High School, he decided that he wanted to start a landscaping business. He loved Harrisonburg and the Shenandoah Valley and knew there was no other place he would rather launch an endeavor in landscaping.In 2006, he and Karena started Southern Scapes. For the past decade, Southern Scapes has been making the Shenandoah Valley even more beautiful.

Chris and his team do great work. They designed and installed a fairly extensive set of retaining walls, steps and low voltage lighting at my home. A year later after some inevitable settling, they came out and squared everything back up and it's been perfect for several years. They have also installed hardwood mulch in the gardens around my home. They were there on time, gentle on the plantings and I regularly get compliments. My neighbor has just hired them because he liked the work they've done for me. Highly recommended.

I had Southern Scapes slope my yard away from my foundation. They did an excellent job. They were quick to come out and see what needed to be done when I first contacted them. The communication/customer service was top notch. All emails and phone calls were easy and fast to get a response. The price was right as well!
