Efficient and flexible, organized for a young family of four, this moderately green house, designed by Richard Tremaglio, replaces an existing non-conforming 'worker's cottage' in an older neighborhood of modest two and three-story houses in Cambridge, MA. The house is oriented to optimize sunlight and privacy in a tight urban setting.
Its convenient side entrance 'front' door faces east, framed by an open, mahogany portico, intended to accommodate seasonal shade vines. For thirty years, architect Richard Tremaglio has developed his reputation for appropriate, environmentally responsive solutions to diverse building programs. A passion for the art of building, in support of place and community, is the heart and soul of Tremaglio's work.
Fundamental to his designs is an evolving method that draws inspiration from materials-at-hand, and from cues unique to each client's setting and objectives.
