At Basic Builders we take the time to get the details right. With over 25 years experience, Basic Builders is the premier kitchen installer of Ikea style cabinets in the New Jersey & New York metro area. Husband & wife team Peter and Lissa Welles are both Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute graduates, each holding a B.S. in mechanical engineering. We call ourselves the Kitchen Engineers. Our design service includes a two hour private session in your home creating your dream kitchen.

Basic Builders works exclusively on the design and installation of IKEA kitchen cabinets. You could say we are obsessed, taking on each project personally, and paying attention to the little details that make a big difference. For 25 years, our company has been putting the customer first. We care that you love your kitchen, and that it exceeds your expectations.
Do you hate those dead spaces in your kitchen and just wish you could magically turn them into a secret storage niche for. Do you love the IKEA system but can't find a door that suits your style? Frequently, we work with suppliers who specialize in providing doors, panels and drawer fronts that are meant to sync with the IKEA frames.
Basic Builders has been designing IKEA kitchens for over 25 years. Our experience and understanding of their products allows for maximum function and ease of use, resulting in the beautiful kitchen you've always wanted. We hate those dead corners as much as you do. Our team knows which components can be customized around that crazy wall obstruction to make use of hidden space.
Why take chances when it comes to installing your kitchen? To date, Basic Builders has installed hundreds of IKEA kitchens. We designed the first IKEA certified Kitchen Installer program in the U.S. and also were part of IKEA's Certified Installer Program while it was active. We love IKEA cabinets and have them in our own home.
Client submits photos and/or sketch via email, Basic Builders emails questionnaire; client returns questionnaire. If proposal falls within your budget, we will schedule a measurement/design consultation site visit. Day 3 & 4: Flooring installed (by others) Please note: Basic Builders no longer offers floor installation services; client is responsible for obtaining those services separately.

We hired Basic Builders to do a gut renovation of our kitchen. As this was our first renovation we were a bit nervous, but the owners (Peter & Lissa) were a pleasure to work with. They answered all of our questions along the way and provided the necessary guidance along the way. The project finished within the timeline we were initially provided and there were no "hidden" or "surprise" costs that came up along the way. If were to ever need another kitchen redone we would definitely use them again.

I loved working with Basic Builders. It was my first time doing any sort of renovations, so I was a tad nervous but working with Basic Builders was an amazing experience. Lissa & Peter were very easy to work with. Very knowledgeable and kind and made us feel comfortable. Anyone that gives Basic Builders their business is in good hands! Couldn't be happier!

A bad flood gave us a silver lining that was Basic Builders. Four years ago we had Peter and Lissa help us with our dream kitchen. Such a wonderful experience with them, truly. This time around they came in quickly for the rescue when we had to gut our kitchen (and the rest of the floor) due to a flood. And again, very nice to work with them, so easy during a difficult time. Having new ceilings and walls allowed Peter to come up with a new design which we love. We absolutely loved working with Lissa & Peter. From beginning to end, they strive to make this renovation project as quick, painless and smooth as possible. Lissa was so calm throughout the whole process. We had some hiccups with IKEA, which was no fault of Basic Builders and Lissa calmly worked through the issues. Basic Builders patiently worked with us to get building management approval. The project started right on time and finished exactly on the date promised. We are in LOVE with our kitchen. Peter was very very thoughtful in the way he worked and his attention to detail is amazing

We waited over 10 years to renovate our kitchen because we never found a contractor we felt comfortable with UNTIL we met Lissa and Peter. Not only were we able to renovate our kitchen within a budget, but it looks beautiful. They are an extremely professional and talented team. My apartment was always clean (or at least as clean as it could be while undergoing a gut renovation in the kitchen) and Peter has extremely high standards for his own work as well as his assistant. My only disappointment is that they could not do it all (counter and painting). Everything they did was great, and they maximized

We had such a great experience with Basic Builders. We considered a few options but ended up going with them because:
* I was perfectly happy to go with IKEA cabinets. From reading various blogs, people seem to generally be pleased with the quality of their cabinets. We wanted to save money where we could and the cabinets were an area where we didn't have strong preferences.
* They're a small operation of a husband/wife team, both of whom are RPI graduates with engineering degrees. As someone who went to a engineering-focused university myself, this was something that appealed to me

Basic Builders is the best! I bought an apartment in Manhattan that was in desperate need of a kitchen renovation. After meeting with a number of contractors I finally met with Peter and was immediately sold. Both Peter and Lissa are professional, responsive and honest. They are truly wonderful human beings who also happen to make a great team. They helped me to completely gut and redo my kitchen. I am just so thrilled with the results. I could not be happier nor could I recommend them any more highly.

Have meant to give a Peter and Tony a good review for a while after putting in a new IKEA kitchen for us in 2011 but never found the time. Needless to say the guys did a fantastic job for us. I was more than delighted with Basic Builders. They just did a new kitchen and bathroom for me, which in every respect turned out flawless. I am very pleased with the design and construction work, which exceeded my every expectation. They picked great looking and durable materials so I won't have to go through this for many years, if ever.
