Services
Our healthcare studio specializes in Acute Care Design, Ambulatory Surgery Centers, Freestanding Emergency Rooms, Cancer Centers as well as Medical Office Buildings. The role of the built environment expands beyond the functional needs of the facility - the workers, patients, and families interact as part of the healthcare process and this impacts how we design a space for their needs.
Acute Care broadly includes design for facilities such as an emergency department, intensive care, coronary care, cardiology, neonatal intensive care, and many general areas where the patient could become acutely unwell and require stabilization and transfer to another higher dependency unit for further treatment.
For decades now, hospitals have provided a tremendous benefit for fast-growing communities by providing outpatient services in smaller standalone centers. ASCs meet extensive state and federal requirements and provide services at a lower cost, with better efficiency, and high quality of care so patients can directly return home and focus on healing.
Since 2011, Hereford Dooley Architects has been involved with over 150 freestanding emergency department (FSED) projects. It is a privilege to help bring lifesaving care to communities further away from the main hospital campuses. FSEDs are physically separated from hospitals but offer lifesaving care and can evaluate and stabilize any patient.
