Olive Architecture, a Raleigh-based design firm, serves clients throughout the US providing creative and distinct buildings that address environmental and business needs of each design challenge. We'll help you achieve logical and imaginative design solutions that work for you. Our success is built on forging long term, strategic partnerships with our clients.
As their Strategic Advisor, we establish Olive Architecture as their life-long architect and advocate. Whether it is a commercial business venture like the roll out of a restaurant chain-a boutique operation like a Pet Spa, historic renovation-or a LEED certified hotel- each project offers distinct architectural design opportunities and challenges.
Project Design Considerations: Achieved LEED Platinum certification following through with the goal of achieving energy leadership and stringent goals. We recently completed and opened our Garner Buffalo Brothers site. Our intention is to continue to build on our success. The Garner location has been well-received.

Located in downtown Raleigh's burgeoning Glenwood South area, Olive Architecture was formed in 2009 by Principal architects, Andy Lawrence and Tom Murphy. Our firm's name was inspired by the olive tree which can live up to 1,000 years still bearing fruit with the trunk changing and thickening into a complex ever-changing form as it ages-embodying endurance, adaptability, and sustainability.
The hotel and restaurant are named after the Proximity Manufacturing Cotton Mill (1896) and Proximity Print Works Mill (1912), which are central to Greensboro's rich textile history. The hotel features 7,000 square feet of private event space, a spacious fitness studio, outdoor swimming pool, and a "guest living room" on each floor.
Goals: The client wanted to purchase, expand and renovate the existing building to create a strong brand image for the company that was representational of repurposed industrial buildings native to owners' Buffalo, New York hometown area. This project represented the first Owner-occupied restaurant for Buffalo Brothers.
The 105-room hotel features 4,000 square feet of contemporary and flexible function meeting space. The meeting facility offers separate catering, and food- delivery and prep areas that support convenient hotel-guest circulation; and independent facility users. Goals: The hotel was to be located on a small sloping site within a 4-parcel master planned commercial development.
