Services
Les will take your ideas and create a 3D model of your dream home so you can see exactly what it's going to look like. He uses state of the art 3D CAD (computer aided design) software to generate 3D views of your new home so you can see exactly what it's going to look like. He can make changes during live design sessions in his high tech design studio so you can see instantly how your changes will look on a theater projection screen.
We use Quad-Lock, Reward Wall Systems, Logix Blocks, and Lite Deck ICF building systems where concrete structures are recommended such as in flood zones. ICF walls complete, roof on, and ready for siding. This is the Acorn Design Studio where you can see, touch, and feel the difference between ICF and conventional wood frame construction.
An Earth Wise Home starts with an air tight thermal envelope. We use ZipWall coated wall sheathing with all joints taped and sealed to create an air tight thermal envelope. Every cubic foot of air that doesn't get in is one less cubic foot of air to heat or cool. We insulate all window and door headers.
This master closet doubles as a safe room making it quick and easy to get into during an emergency. The door is 14 gauge steel with 3 dead bolts for security from hurricanes, tornadoes, and intruders. Safe room doors must swing in to prevent the door from being blocked by debris and prevent occupants from escaping.
The Bucks are professional photographers and love how their solatubes show their work in the best light. Solatube in the kitchen in our 2018 Parade of Homes entry which one first place in the top price category. Watkins residence: A 14 solatube in the great room and over the island bathes both spaces in natural light, bringing out the beautiful colors in the granite as well as brightening up what otherwise would be darker spaces.

I could write a book...literally. But here are the facts:
1. Les told us it would take about 12 months, it actually took 19 months.
2. Cost me an extra 23k in closing costs and 10k in construction loan costs due to telling us it would take 12mo and going 7 months longer.
3. Les is still not done with punch list at 13mo post closing.
4. Job site supervision is via "web cam" which sounds neat, but doesn't deliver results. This is part of the issue with schedule creep. Very little in person jobsite supervision was conducted.
Here is my opinion: Les is not a good communicator and struggles to

Acorn Fine Homes designed and built an excellent home for me and my family. Their design-build team is very creative and builds a high quality home. They provided for us an excellent combination of architectural and interior design service along with highly experienced construction knowledge. I liked the convenience and economy of being able to deal with one company instead of a separate architect and builder.
They also incorporated an elevator and aging in place features which were important to us and our aging parents.
Our home has a built-in safe room which is great for us because we have

LOVE, LOVE, LOVE our solatubes. We had planned to have just one installed in our kitchen but it made such a big difference that we had four more installed! May even have more installed in the future. We also like the solar powered night lights which are installed within the tubes! Ken, the gentleman who installed the solatubes, did a great job...a true professional. We would highly recommend Acorn Fine Homes...a top-notch company!
