I am a Certified Kitchen Designer (CKD) & Certified Bathroom Designer (CBD) practicing residential kitchen and bath design in the San Francisco Bay Area since 1990. I attended numerous classes in the design program at Canada College, and then worked for full service kitchen and bath remodeling firms until starting my own design firm in 2001.
As an independent Certified Kitchen and Bathroom Designer in the Greater San Francisco Bay Area, I work to direct you toward finding the most cost-effective resources for your project. I don't promote or sell any product lines, but have had broad experience working with better cabinets, plumbing fixtures, surface materials and appliances.
The clearer you are on your priorities and goals, the smoother and shorter the design process will be. The better the planning is, the more efficient the implementation. Following are a few tips for getting started. Gather information about what styles and products you like. Use kitchen and bath design magazines, remodeling magazines & online sources to find pictures of what you like (as well as what you don't).
Storage needs: Do you buy groceries in bulk? Do you have any large pieces of equipment that need to be considered? For example a frequently used blender or mixer that you don't want sitting on the counter. If there is room, would you like a walk-in pantry? Physical limitations: Do you or a family member have trouble bending or reaching?
Storage needs: Do you need/want a linen cabinet in the bathroom or perhaps added in a hallway nearby? Would you like a medicine cabinet (or two)? How do you prefer to store a hairdryer or other equipment? How many towels do you use? Would you like a recessed niche or 2 in the shower/tub area? If yes, how large?
