Chimneys can have a lot of problems if they are not flashed properly. Chimney flashing are installed where the roof meets the chimney and they prevent water from entering through the roof. Water that is absorbed by brick will eventually find its way into the house. Often chimneys are flashed with cheap trim coil aluminum or tar.
