Our overriding architectural and business philosophy is that we work with you, and for you. We view our responsibility as distilling your input and desires into a clear, practical, aesthetic and valuable architectural solution, customized to your individual project. You will not be overwhelmed by an egotistic desire to force our design ideals into your home or commercial building.
Andrew Young and Steve Borlik met while attending Cal-Poly in San Luis Obispo, CA where they received their Bachelors of Architecture in 1986. They began their business together in 1988, providing design and drawing services to homeowners on the Peninsula. Thirty-two years later, Young & Borlik Architects have built a team of outstanding designers, project managers and staff.
What are the parameters, rules and guidelines for your location? We research feasibility and site-specific data to assess the possibilities and limitations of your property. Building Code analysis: site & building access, parking & traffic requirements, fire protection, etc. What will it take to reach your goal?
What do you want? What do you see? What do you need? Our services are based on your vision. Tell us how you would like to develop your property. A list of goals, pictures, or online idea portfolios all can help us understand your vision. By considering options, combining alternatives, and refining the balance of decision making, the design becomes clear and the best alternatives surface.
For significant projects, most cities require some form of Planning Department review process. The process varies from city to city. This can range from simple staff level approvals to formal public hearings. Some projects require pushing beyond the normal everyday entitlements set by the planning codes.

We've had Steve and Andrew do the design and oversee the work for two major and two minor remodels. Through all of this, plus doing remodel design for friends of ours, Steve and Andrew have exceeded all expectations. The took the time to understand our needs, did extra research on new and interesting additions that have made the design just that much better. They have a network of other great people from landscape architects to interior designers to general contractors they work with that result in a complete harnonized final product.
