Randy Block has had a long and successful career in custom design furniture, and he continues to produce original work from his office and shop in Little Rock, Arkansas. The following article has appeared in the magazine At Home in Arkansas and has been slightly edited for the Web. Randy Block has never been easily satisfied.
Architectural Arts is frequently commissioned to produce custom beds. Below you will see two examples of custom handmade beds produced to match photographs from magazines. Although we enjoy furniture design, reproducing someone else's work has its own rewards and challenges. This Thonet queen size bed is the most technically difficult piece of custom handmade furniture that Architectural Arts has ever been commissioned to build.
Architectural Arts builds custom tables for every room of your home and office. Be sure to see my custom sofa and end tables. This custom dining table, made from northern hard maple, was created to exacting dimensions to fit into a small dining area. The client had been unable to find anything even close in the manufactured furniture he had seen.
These matching teak china hutches sit opposite each other in the client's dining room. The curved glass doors are quite unusual. They are tempered, a quarter of an inch thick, featuring a sandblasted rose pattern in each corner. There are only two places on earth that make curved tempered glass - Italy and Arkansas.
Other popular commissions include custom executive desks and custom reception desks. A solid piece of storm felled walnut, 2 '' thick and 30 wide give this table its striking appearance. The legs are glass, sand-blasted with original art. Each leg is illuminated with concealed LED lights whose color can be customized by the owner with a simple remote.
