The Home Builders Association of Greater Springfield was chartered in 1954. Since that date, the Association has enjoyed continued growth and expansion as we have strived to assist and promote the building industry on the local level. The local association is a member of the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) with headquarters in Washington, D.C.
The HBA of Greater Springfield is home to approximately 400 members, representing builders, developers, remodelers, and associates in all areas of the residential construction and housing industries. HBA members (HBA Home Pros) are businesses connected to residential construction and the housing industry in some manner.
This includes builders, developers and remodelers as well as banks, plumbers, appliance stores, electricians, lumber, cabinet companies and many more large and small businesses. HBA Home Pros can be found participating in our Major Events like the HBA Home Show and HBA Parade of Homes. Provide proof of general liability insurance - one of the most important requirements for HBA membership.

In order to reduce touches at the HBA Home Show we now offer ticket purchases online. The quicker visitors can enter the shorter the line - which leads to better social distancing. In addition, tickets will not be transferred from one person to another with the online tickets. In the case that the HBA Home Show cannot be held, due to unforeseen circumstances, tickets will be valid for a future rescheduled date unless refund requested.
What are NAHB Professional Designations? These certifications or "marks of distinction" are raising the standards for those in the home building industry. Look for these marks after names just like you would find PhD or MD. Why use a company with individuals who have earned Professional Designations?
The Home Builders Association of Greater Springfield recently wrapped up an 18-month long process updating the city's building codes. Much of that focus has been centered around the International Energy Conservation Code (IECC). Outside interest groups were pushing for an immediate full adoption of the of the 2018 IECC, which would add burdensome costs to.
Every house is unique, but to allow the tool to compare "apples to apples, " it calculates the fees/costs for your selected city or county based on a 1,600 square foot single family crawl space (no basement) home with a 400 square foot attached garage. In those cases where a permit or fee is based on an estimated value of home to be built, rather than square footage, the value used is $200,000.
Because of the shortage of skilled workers in the home building industry, your HBA will continue to educate those of all ages about great opportunities in construction related fields. The HBA of Greater Springfield is heavily involved with workforce development including programs like Build My Future, Be Constructive and the Kid Pro Zone.
