Services
We started Vanillawood when we moved to Portland from Los Angeles. What started as flipping high-end spec houses (after we fell in love with the whole process of designing and remodeling our first house in LA) quickly turned into client-driven, custom projects. Our first design studio/retail store in the Pearl District came out of the necessity to move out of our home office to make room for our third son.
Unlike the more traditional path of hiring a designer, architect and builder separately, hiring a design-build firm offers you all of these services under one roof. This provides you with one cohesive team communicating and collaborating on your project from beginning to end. As a general contractor, Vanillawood understands the fundamental costs associated with building, and that is an essential part of our intuitive design process.
We strive to design spaces that express the narrative of the people who inhabit them. Our design approach invites the outside in - bringing in as much natural light as possible. Our goal with every project is to listen to your needs and introduce you to things you would have never thought of. I ordered a vase from Vanillawood's online store as my first purchase from this company. The whole experience start-to-finish was very pleasant with great customer service! Right after ordering, I received a personal email from Jenny, letting me know the item was going to be delayed a bit and she wanted to keep me in the loop. I received a few more emails from Jenny along the way keeping me updated on my order status. I really appreciated the wonderful customer service, it's hard to find these days, and my vase is beautiful! I will be a returning customer! :)

I always feel taken care of when I come here. The gals who work here are personable and very professional. The greatest thing was the vision I had and they pulled all the right pieces together to make this vision come true. One of the best customer service I've experienced since day 1. They are always on top of communication and following up with any info. Definitely recommend anyone looking for any kind of interior designing needs!

I have shopped at the store a few times because the owner "designer" does have good taste. She seems to be willing to cut off her nose as the saying goes. I was planning on buying a piece of art but because she was angry at me for not using her design services or not buying fabric through her, not sure which, she was blatantly unpleasant and then quoted the piece of art I liked at a higher price than I had previously been quoted. She wants to make it clear she doesn't need my business and that's great cuz she won't be getting it again. Too bad because I really liked the
