The large long springs above the top of your garage door when closed are called Torison springs. When one of these springs break half of the lifting force just vanished. My father pictured right with "Elvis burns" checking a instant reverse clutch on a Genie model 450 in 1969.

Saved me money. I thought I was going to have to replace my door...He was able to repair my door, replaced my broken spring, adjusted my cables, tuned my door opener to the new springs, lubed all moving parts and tested and retested. I need a new garage door opener installed today and I contacted Suncoast garage door opener and operator. He came out within 30 minutes he was pleasant the entire time he was there and very knowledgeable about the garage door. If I ever had to make another call I would call him again. Also for the price that was given a very fair deal not paying for somebody's big truck.
