After several years in the construction business building custom homes and log cabins, I decided that the hardscape field was a better fit for myself. One, I hated the heights that came with the building industry. I needed to be on the ground! Two, I still loved to build things. The covered bridges, waterfalls, streams and stone walls of New England helped to push me into the custom landscape design field.
Enter 1992, I moved back to the Charlotte area, got married to the sexiest hot mama on the planet and decided to start Fine Edge Landscape Design. The beginning was mainly softscapes and maintenance which gradually transformed into small paver projects and stone walls. The maintenance was boring. I wanted to build!
My brother, Mike, joined the team in 1995. Finally, someone to talk to. Working by yourself all day, everyday, made you start talking to yourself to ease the quiet. We educated ourselves on proper base compaction, structural stability and the varying design elements that we wanted to build.

Our patio projects in the Greater Charlotte area initially started with a small paver patio and maybe a walkway. That was about it, nothing special, no added "accessories". Once we honed our masonry skills, many more options became available to our clients. Extra points to Dave & Mike Sutton and their whole team at Fine Edge Design! They designed and completed a backyard patio project for us, including an outdoor kitchen and wood-burning fireplace. Our backyard now is a showpiece in our neighborhood, we can't wait to share it with all our friends and neighbors! These guys are so professional and efficient. Dave came out to review the damage to my retaining wall/ paver patio. He prepared a comprehensive and detailed proposal of the work required to make the repairs. His crew arrived at the appointed time and completed the work quickly and most efficiently. They came back twice to make minor changes.
Finally Dave came back for a final review. He updated the proposal with a final cost LOWER than his original proposal.
I now have a beautiful patio for entertaining guests this spring/summer. Thanks to Dave and his wonderful team!!!!!

I can highly recommend Dave and Fine Edge Design to anyone who is considering an outdoor project.
