The Studio Of Robert R. Norman
National and international authority on rustic furniture and design, Robert R. Norman's talent is as diverse as his work. His artistic visions are rooted in his passion for appreciating and preserving the natural world. Vibrant images of fish are a predominate theme in his art, and his style captures the imagination with bright colors and bold lines.

His rustic furniture is built with sustainably gathered woods such as sassafras and driftwood, and each piece is hand-crafted and unique. Robert's fascination with rustic furniture and all things fish began in childhood; his father and uncles were cabinet makers and avid fishermen and included Bob in both activities from a very young age.

A natural artist, he studied commercial design in college and worked as a commercial artist for a time. By the 1990's, he began making his own unique furniture designs using gathered sticks from roadsides and riverbanks, as well as sustainably harvested, fast-growing sassafras. These designs were the core of Roadside Rustics, a company he founded in 1996.
Services
Robert has been designing and building rustic furniture for nearly 20 years. His first furniture company, Roadside Rustics, gained national popularity due to the artist's creative use of his artwork to make signature pieces. They used Sassafras logs for framing and made a full range of pieces for any room in the home, from cabinets to beds to chairs and dining tables.
A sphere is multidimensional, visually illustrating the singularity of individual points interconnected through lines arcing infinitely towards each other. Illumination of a sphere invokes a feeling of wonder akin to gazing at the night sky. Rotate an illuminated sphere, and you will create countless light bodies, dancing in a frenetic pattern on every surface around the sphere.
Guests of Crystal Bridges American Museum of Art were excited to contribute to a sculpture by artist Robert R. Norman, Sphere XOX, which was installed near Leo Villareal's Buckyball sculpture where it remained on display for two weeks. Signature to his style, Norman transformed ordinary sticks into an illuminated masterpiece that awed the crowd.
Come join us at Crystal Bridges American Museum of Art for Robert's newest ultraviolet sphere creation, Sphere XOX. Like Robert's first sphere, the sculpture will be constructed using sticks that would have been considered refuse; in this case, they will be collected from the grounds at Crystal Bridges.
