Murphy Architects is a small client focused architectural studio specializing in value added design solutions. We pride ourselves on the ability to listen intently to a client's needs and desires, develop alternatives for discussion and then execute beautifully. We apply a proven expertise in architecture, real estate development, and optional design/build project delivery to new or renovated residential projects, small commercial projects, and theater design. While each project is unique, our consistent design principles appear throughout all; natural light, layered spaces, attentive detailing, balance, and scale.

The homeowners wanted to remodel the narrow confines of an existing kitchen and breakfast room to include a breakfast bar. Spatially, this was a major challenge because the room was not wide enough to accommodate a breakfast bar and circulation at the same time. We met the client's requirement by shifting and alternating the location and depths of the cabinets in order to "bend space" and accommodate both seating and circulation.
The homeowners have rewarded us by retaining us for multiple interior remodeling projects over the past 5 years. Most recently they asked us to transform the exterior of their home while maintaining the existing openings and rooflines. The Pacific Northwest style we suggested came as a surprise to the homeowners when we first showed them the design.
The homeowners are both real estate agents. They saw the house as an opportunity to renovate an existing 1950's ranch in a desirable neighborhood. Beyond the requirement for a whole house renovation including a new master suite, kitchen, breakfast and family room additions; they directed us to provide a rear yard "room" for entertaining.
The Borough of Ivyland, PA requires that all new developments be designed and constructed to emulate a Victorian style. The developer requested that we develop three models; small, medium and large. Since the project was to be constructed across from the Ivyland Borough Hall we knew we had to hit the mark the first time out.
We developed plans for the remodeling of an existing residence in Wayne, PA. The required that we retain the existing pool, rear stone patio, and landscaping. After completion of the plans, the owner decided that he wanted more garage space. In response, we razed the existing structure and designed a new residence while still retaining the basement, utilities, pool and rear patio.
