I returned a truck and rented a storage space for my recent move to Santa Barbara. The store looked great (because normally truck places look terrible...) and the staff was really helpful showing me around and suggesting packing tips for my stuff. Budget and U-haul both over-book trucks, and leave it to the pick-up site to work-out the conflict. Reserve the largest truck one month in advance, and a day or two before pick-up, they call to offer a smaller truck. If you do not connect with them before arriving for your appointment......NO TRUCK!
The customer; who is moving and extremely stressed; is usually unhappy to see all their careful plans disintegrate. Budget representatives deal with many angry customers, and become indifferent to the customers crisis. So even if you are very pleasant, the indifference carries the day
