In the early 1980's, after years of working in the field as an estimator for his brother, Lawrence O. Michaelis started his own construction company. The family name began appearing on more and more trucks throughout central Indiana and now is simply known as Michaelis. When I joined my Father's firm, as a field carpenter, we furthered our solid reputation as general contractors.
You see other people that have fires and you are like, you never really think how it affects you. But it's like, when you get that call from your wife and your house is on fire and, it's just you sit there and you wait for the fire department and you see your house burning and there is no worse feeling then waiting for them to get water on your house.
We realize a home or business fire can be devastating. Not just financially but emotionally. Once the fire trucks leave, we arrive. Your very own cavalry. Minus the horses. Smoke removal and water extraction is a big part of fire damage clean up and we do it all at Michaelis. Our immediate response team can help with securing the site.
The fire may be out but the smoke damage is just settling in and can linger. We used Michaelis/Sporemasters to handle some water and mold damage due to a burst pipe. Everything seemed great with getting the estimate and getting scheduled, however once the work began, the communication was subpar. Twice the project manager no-showed me for appointments. On one of those occasions, I then could not get ahold of him nor his supervisor for 6 days! There was a second occasion where I had questions about billing and was unable to get ahold of anyone for another 6 days despite emails and leaving messages. The project did not move along at nearly the rate they had proposed and left

Michaelis replaced an existing window with a sliding door for us. When they came to give the estimate we talked in detail about the kind of door and the placement of the door. When the project manager came to view the area we were told that we would need to pay a significant amount more than the estimate because it was a different door than specified. We went ahead with the project and when they came to take the brick off the house the placement was not quite correct. They made it right the day they placed the door. They had to move duct work and where the register went up the wall originally,

Without a doubt, the worst experience with a restoration company. I'm writing this after hearing a commercial about how responsive and professional they are. My bathroom restoration took well over a year. They had the insurance money in the bank. Didn't show up for months at a time and then put a lien on my property because I didn't pay them before they completed the job. Walked on a cardboard floor for months. Was supposed to have a glass shower door and they put in plastic. Didn't square the walls so the door doesn't fit. Tile is falling off the walls. Grout washing out

David Hartig was very professional listening to our needs and concerns. We hired Michaelis based on his proposal. Unfortunately from there it was all downhill. Bill Verhonik was our "Project Manager" and he changed the proposal without saying a word. He never asked or told us about any changes, and those changes were not approved. He later told us what he would have recommended, and if that had been the company's initial proposal we would have hired another company. We stopped the project until an acceptable alternative was reached. Your crew was supposed to cover our belongings

Don't waste your time. I had Michaelis out to look at my remodel project and give me a bid twice, and both times, after weeks of poor communication and empty promises, they blew me off. I wouldn't have fallen for this a second time, but a representative of the company called after the first debacle and said that Rick Michaelis wanted to make it up to us and handle our bid personally. He was nice enough when we showed him the property, but after that we were met with weeks of promises and excuses before he finally bowed out. Very unprofessional.

The back gutter and awning of the house we'd just bought leaked all over the place in a heavy rain. It was particularly dangerous because it dumped water around the outside electrical box. Michaelis worked around my schedule to come assess it provide me quote. The cost wasn't cheap, but they didn't try to sell me a new roof or nickel and dime me with any unnecessary work. Almost immediately after I submitted the up-front payment, they scheduled the work for the next day. They worked on it through the morning and were done by lunchtime.
