Our new synthetic lawn looks awesome! David and his crew at Modern Paving in Los Altos (a Diamond Certified company) were great to work with, and they got our job done very quickly and at a competitive price. We obtained bids from three companies, and while Modern Paving was not the lowest bid, they were pretty close, and we went with Modern Paving because they promised to do the job within a couple of weeks of contract (the others quoted 6-8 weeks or more). Modern didn't disappoint, either on their promised install date, or on the quality of the installation. I'm happy to recommend

We had Modern Paving install a new interlocking paver driveway, build a small bocce/horseshoes/game court with an artificial surface, and redo pathways around our property. Rick and the team were excellent. One of the most responsive contractors I have ever worked with. Worked with us to nail down the details of what we wanted to do, worked well with a third party to secure specialized materials, got the job done ahead of the committed schedule, and made sure to wrap up minor punch list items before taking final payment. David and his crew did a wonderful job on our property. We had recently moved into a new home that needed a makeover - new driveway, backyard, drains, etc. David listened to our concerns and found the best - and sometimes the least expensive - solution to our needs. So - as usual - this review is long over due as Gary and his crew completed their paving job for me back in April 2017. We had a minor hiccup which is why it took so long to finally write this review which i'll explain later.
anyway - we had called Modern Paving to come out and take a look at a few things. they bid on the job and the pricing seemed fair and inline with a few others we spoke to.
so we ended up having the company do:
1) redo a previous paving job in our side yard that was a complete wreck - the slope and grade were done incorrectly and while water ran away from the house

We had a terrible experience with Gary at Modern Paving. We needed a new driveway and what should have been a one week job turned into nearly two months because he failed to get the necessary permits. The city drove by during demolition and let us know that we needed a permit and that we had to put in an asphalt swale. We had originally only contracted for the driveway, but the demolition of the swale happened before we had agreed to do the work and we were then forced to do it (and pay for it), so Gary suggested we put in crushed granite. I normally do not do any reviews on Yelp, but I feel that we truly did not get the job value that we paid for.
We hired MP to put in pavers, sit wall and artificial grass for our backyard base on the great reviews on Yelp. I agree with everyone; Gary was friendly, easy to talk to and responsive. The problem I have with MP is the quality of the work. The job was completely in about 13 days and the quality does reflect. My pavers were all scratched on the surface, some with cracks & chips on the corners, and some had paver glue smudges on it. The sand filler used to fill the lines between

We are very happy with the way everything turned out, and as the weather is getting nicer, love going outside and using a space that used to be barely functional. We remodelled our entire backyard and most of the front, so the scope of our project was sizable. Working with Gary was straightforward and enjoyable. We contacted Gary for our backyard remodel, he gave us first estimation in one day, and after we signed the contract, his crew did an excellent job, finished all details before the thanksgiving in 10 days (build a fence and paving). We had a situation where we needed to tear up an old patio to route electrical conduit underneath, so we needed help fast. In comes Gary and Modern Pavers.
He gave us good suggestions for how to deal with the issue, what design choices might make sense, gave us timely estimates and struck the perfect balance between being professional and friendly. They dug a trench for our conduit and even offered to reroute our sprinkler PVC piping, all at extremely competitive prices. Hard to ask for more.
We still have more landscaping to do in the not-too-distant future and plan to use Modern Pavers again

Gary's team did a five star job on my mom's property. However, he never fulfilled his promise to put in turf at my house. I think it was because it was a small job. I went with a different contractor who put in a beautiful dog run for me at a reasonable price too.
For a big job, Modern Paving would do a great job. Otherwise, I'm unsure they would fit the job into their schedule.
