We believe in the 'buy it once, buy it for life' mentality which is why we pride ourselves on the quality and craft of each piece we build. The progression of our studio space is a visual understanding of our dreams for gd and where we started. Our first shop was in a two-stall garage apartment garage of GD partner Blain Mikkonen. No heat, no air, but here the dream was started. From there we grew into our first "OFFICIAL" address as Grain Designs in West Fargo complete with a custom reclaimed basketball hoop, pull-up bar, and our first office.
The core value of Grain Designs lies in the material we have chosen to work with; our name is an expression of this value. The meaning intended by Grain Designs is that it's an investigation of the finest details of a single piece of wood, the physical wood grain. However, there is a more eloquent underlying meaning.

Grain Designs crafted a custom gift for a staff member's farewell. We requested a quote laser etched on NDSU bleacher wood - the final product was so beautifully done. Blain was fantastic to work with, was quick to respond to my requests and provided timely updates throughout the project. Highly recommend Grain Designs.

I love my Grain Designs reclaimed wood world map. It looks so great in my dining room. While most people would put it in their living room over a couch, I really wanted it to be the first thing people see when they walk in. Maybe I'm a bit biased, but it doesn't change the fact that I LOVE these guys, their heart and the work they put into each piece.

I would recommend Blain and the entire team at Grain Designs to anyone! We met with them to add a dry bar area as well as a reclaimed wood wall. They are professional and correspond in a timely manner, which is important when it comes to construction projects. Our lower level Project turned out fantastic!
