For over 30 years, Dave Day has been providing custom kitchens, bathroom vanities, libraries, built-ins, display cases, closets, and other various items too numerous to list. Under the name of D.a.
Day Inc, he has made nothing but one-of-a-kind products, custom created to match the needs and tastes of not only the people with homes and businesses in the greater Vermont/New Hampshire area, but has created custom work to be shipped to out of the way places as far as Bermuda and beyond.Even though the focus is on home furnishings, his work has included commercial fixtures for stores on Broadway in NYC, Chestnut Hill in Massachusetts, and more.
Everything that leaves the shop in downtown Stowe, Vermont is truly a unique creation. With the availability of many different materials (not always necessarily wood), and ideas, we are only limited by your imagination. Having the privilege to learn the hands on skills at a time when there were plenty of older craftsmen around, and also being in the trades during the information boom has been very beneficial.

So what do we work with? Well, it may be easier to say what we won't work with, because the pallet is so large. The use of particle board with the nylon coating and picture of wood grain (melamine photo board) is somewhat dated now although it was the hottest thing then. We don't like to use MDF (medium density fiberboard) which is so popular because it's cheap and paintable, but it is really more of a paper product than a woodworking medium.
It's already there, you already own it, it's paid for, but it doesn't work for your new vision. Or, you've found this really cool piece of architectural salvage and would like to incorporate it into your home somehow. We absolutely love this! This is how you make use of what you already have (or found), and can create a truly one of a kind piece that not only works for your new application, but gives your place a whole new feeling.
Some folks are totally pleased with off the shelf, out of the box, ready-made cabinets from one of the big suppliers. BUT, there are a few things to consider. First, store bought cabinets are already made when you order them and are usually made in 6 increments. The salesperson (not to be confused with a cabinet maker), types the measurements of your space into the computer and, "Voila!", the space is immediately filled with little cubes.

I have had the pleasure to work with Dave Day and Dave Day Fine Cabinet Makers on many different occasions and over many years. Most of my associations with Dave and DDFCM have been as the architect on projects where he has played the role of the cabinet maker. However, in this relationship naming Dave as the cabinet maker would not do his services justice. In each of these projects he has also stepped naturally into the role of artisan, craftsman and collaborator. Dave always brings new ideas to the table which complement the design direction of the project as well as imparting very practical
