Good Shepherd Geriatric Center began when the Evangelical Lutheran Good Samaritan Society purchase an unfinished building to provide care for the aged and infirmed. The Manor was developed by converting the former Hanford Hotel to 100 one and two bedroom apartments for independent senior living. Shalom Tower I was built as a HUD Section 8 96 unit independent living apartment complex for low-income seniors.
Telephone Reassurance program was instituted based on identified need to monitor seniors in their own homes to maintain independence and safety. This service continues to be offered at no cost to participants today. Shalom Tower II a HUD Section 202 project, was built adding 48 independent living apartments for low income seniors.
Cornerstone Assisted Living opens, residents on 1st floor of original geriatric center are relocated to new building. Space is converted into 18 assisted living apartments and named Cornerstone Assisted living. 16 one bedroom assisted living apartments added to 2nd floor of original building, cornerstone.

As part of the Good Shepherd, Inc. continuum of care we offer two levels of nursing care for those people who, because of a medical condition or an additional need for assistance with daily activities, require 24-hour, seven-day-a-week assistance. In operation since 1946, Good Shepherd Health Center has the experience and resources to be the best place for your loved one's long term care placement.
Kentucky Ridge, located at 2060 South Kentucky Ave., was built in 2002, with an addition added in 2009. Featuring sixty, one and two-bedroom apartments, Kentucky Ridge offers beautiful landscaping and is located on the edge of town for residents preferring a more rural setting, yet wanting the conveniences of being close to town.
Good Shepherd, Inc. offers several distinct housing options depending on your preferences and needs. The Manor, located in downtown Mason City close to several amenities, is an elegantly remodeled hotel converted into 93 one and two bedroom apartments, including a beauty salon and optional home-cooked noon meal.
Prairie Place on 1st is a condominium complex for independent living seniors. This building was designed in a missionary style, inspired by the architectural design of Frank Lloyd Wright. Prairie Place is located on the south side of Good Shepherd's campus. The building offers 32 condominiums featuring 6 different floor plans along with a great amenities such as it's convenient downtown location, underground parking, and community rooms.
ABOUT THERAPY - The Good Shepherd Health Center therapy team is made up of highly qualified physical therapists, occupational therapists, and speech-language pathologists. This team provides therapy services to individuals at Good Shepherd and even makes "house calls" to those in the continuum including, Cornerstone assisted living facility, Kentucky Ridge assisted living, Shalom Towers, and the Manor.

Not impressed with the care. My dad’s mom was at good shepherd for over 3 years and questionable care had happened then. We refused to take my mom’s dad here but it’s the only place that works with the VA. I am aware there is a lot going on but I expected more from the nursing staff to try and help accommodate families. We called and waited 45 minutes to talk to my grandfather - turns out they shredded the number. not impressed.

If you're planning on doing skilled nursing here.....they will keep you way past the time you need to be here! They are are abusing Medicare for skilled nursing? Don't plan on getting a shower either! Mother finally received one after 10 days. Not until we had found out and brought it to their attention! Won't ever get my mother to come back here again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I recently moved a family member into Good Shepherd from Kentucky Ridge Assisted Living and was extremely impressed with the seamless transition. Little did I know that furniture and personal items would be moved for us at no fee! That was priceless. Also, Social Worker Kiley Logan went above and beyond to make sure that all our needs were met quickly and efficiently! Many thanks.
