Academy Fence
In 1958 Ken and Jane Slack opened the doors of Academy Fence in Saint James, Long Island, NY. This began a tradition of leading the Long Island fence industry with innovative style, service, and value - a combination that has lasted for almost 50 years. Currently operated in Suffolk County, Long Island, by Bruce and Liz Slack, the tradition has been carried through.

It has been very rewarding seeing second and third generation customers; for this we say thank you for your patronage. Academy Fence is always looking to create innovative fencing. We can craft any wood, vinyl PVC, chain link or metal fence to frame your property. Bamboo, exotic woods, and stone stucco are just some of the materials we have used, and are always looking for the next new idea.

We can offer our suggestions to fit your unique situation - and combining styles is our specialty. Secure and enhance your property with our handcrafted fencing. We'll always keep your budget in mind! Besides fencing, we offer other products such as attractive railings for your front porch or steps and beautiful arbors for your entrance or walkway, Plus, we can show you cupolas and weather vanes to top off your home.
Services
What puts Academy Fence above its competition is the pride we take in our work, staff and our home. Our tradition actually goes back even more than than 50 years. Walter and Elizabeth Lehmann - our grandparents - opened their shop in 1925 in Ridgewood, New York. The family's fourth generation is currently hard at work creating innovative fencing and other products to beautify your home and garden.
How long can I expect my fence to last? Two factors are very important. The first is the type of material used. For a wood fence, using cedar has lasted for over 30 years. However the norm is 15 to 18 years. Metal and vinyl last indefinitely. The second and equally important factor is the method of installation.
With over 50 years of fine woodworking experience, Academy can help you choose a fence and gate using the finest of materials. Combining cedar, spruce, and pressure treated lumber, we manufacture wood fencing that will give you years of maintenance-free beauty. We have many, many choices of beautiful wood fence styles for both privacy security and safety - in all sizes.
Beautiful and functional. Buckminster Fuller, the famous architect, coined the phrase "Form follows function". We improved on this by combining the best of form and function by using versatile vinyl in the construction of our beautiful porch railings. Accenting your porch railing with posts adds beauty to any installation.

Terribly appethetic, inept service. I was helping an elderly couple replace 3 sections of fence. Their price was exorbantly high. They were told the pieces would take 2 weeks to arrive. . Didn't happen..they were told " it didn't make it on to the truck." Then Academy ordered the wrong fence after they insisted they were ordering the right ones. They never made good on the 3 sections that were incorrectly ordered. It ended up 6 weeks of excuses. My neighbors paid the money (2X), inconvenience and left with the feeling of being strung along. Don't us this place. A big chain store will prob give

I can't comment on the quality of work but I can say that their customer service is horrible. I was told my new fencing would be installed in 3-4 weeks. When that came and went I called again and was told another two weeks. When that went by I called again and was told to call back in two days to get an time for the fence installation. I never received a call from Academy at any time advising of delays or reasons why. I cancelled the order.

Bruce's fencing crew did a great job replacing our rotted stockade fencing with vinyl and installing two gates. They arrived when promised and worked very efficiently. The new fence looks really nice and I'm looking forward to doing more gardening now that I can easily get the wheelbarrow into the front yard.
