I have been designing and building gardens for over 30 years. I first studied in England with John Brookes, a gifted teacher and landscape designer. I then joined Blooming Gardens in London, where I learned every aspect of garden installation, including laying York stone patios with stone that was 4 thick!

I have relied on Barbara's services for the past twenty years, including her complete redesign of both the front and rear yards of my home. Her work covers the gamut from landscape design to hardscape installation to full planting. I can't imagine anyone knows more or cares more about plants and flowers than Barbara. She owns her projects. More important, she's a total delight to work with - listens carefully to what you're looking for but able at the same time to steer you towards even better possibilities and away from your bad ideas. We have worked with Barbara Katz intermittently for the past 20 years. She is an exceptional landscape designer who transformed our property, both hardscape and plantings. The owner, Barbara, has a fantastic knowledge of plants, trees, cultivars, all the details you need to know to be able to choose the best plant for your project. She also has "an eye" and can tell you how to achieve the type of landscape you are looking for. On top of that, she doesn't push you to buy and spend unnecessary money in difficult projects, hard to maintain, and she can find how to achieve beautiful results with what you have or with few changes. I highly recommend having a consultation with her before starting any project in the garden.

Barbara designed a garden for me in my small Chevy Chase backyard. The process was a pleasure, and the outcome was spectacular. Barbara designed the hardscape, and worked with the stone mason on execution, and recommended a good lighting designer (Olson Weaver). Barbara's true gift was in plant selection. She choose plants that fit the space, are easy to care for, and thrive in our challenging conditions. Her thoughtful and beautiful selections are a source of joy year round.

Barbara is a fantastic landscape designer and a great person. I have known her for many years as a member of APLD (Association of Professional Landscape Designers) and have toured many of her projects, including the Delaware Botanical Gardens. I have personally worked with her on several recent projects providing landscape lighting services through my company Olson Weaver Lighting Design & Install. Barbara was a great listener when we began the process of a major front garden renovation. We wanted a deer-resistant evergreen but also colorful garden. Her experience and expertise were obvious from the start. She presented us with 3 equally appealing plans one of which we chose to adopt with some modifications. She and her contractors were efficient and the job got done even quicker than we expected. A pleasure to work with from start to finish. Even from the start we had an amazing front landscape and now 3 years later it has matured beautifully.

I worked with Barbara earlier this year to design and install a new garden. It has been so much fun watching it transform through each season. She listened to what I wanted and even used many of my existing plants to design a truly special garden. She has continued to follow up to make sure everything is doing well.
