Parks and greenspaces can be created to help communities work with weather systems, instead of fight them. In Hilo, Hawaii, the floodplain is a soccer field when not acting as a drain field.

Here, Kotchakorn Voraakhom discusses her inspiring work in Bangkok, Thailand. Indigenous cultures evolved within their environments. What they learned was built on generation after generation, shaping their environment as the environment shaped them.

As a child educated in the American public school system, I was taught that North America had been a vast untamed wilderness, through which small bands of primitive people roamed, and that the White Man had brought culture and civilization to that wilderness.Among the things that the White Man brought was fire suppression.

Native Hawaiian artist Donald Namohala Yuen has worked in various media, from oil painted murals to copper sculptures; from fine jewelry to custom homes. In 1967, he created the Malama Torch, now manufactured by his daughter Leilehua, and son-in-law Manu. In 2015, the business received a Chase for Business Mission Main Street Grant.
LeiManu Designs had its genesis in 1967, when Donald Namohala Yuen, working as Don Yuen Manufacturing, created the Malama Torch. The unique "flaming khili" design torch grew out of a conversation between the manager of the Mauna Kea Beach Hotel and the manager of the Gas Company. They were looking for a unique lau torch which would highlight the esthetic of the hotel, protect the flame, and evoke a sense of Hawaiian place.
Holding the flute with your right hand, place the flute under your right nostril, so that the nose hole is under your right nostril, holding it perpendicular to your nose and about 30 degree angle to the right. You can adjust to find the best tone quality. Gently place the pad of your index finger over the hole closest to your face (not including the nose hole, of course).
Both of my parents are professional artists, and my grandparents all were involved in the various arts. When I was little, they were attending the California College of Arts and Crafts, so my earliest years were spent around some of the Bay Area's foremost artists and artisans. I never was given any of the children's art kits.
My overwhelming sense of curiosity has led me into many different jobs, and each one has provided new opportunities for learning and growth. I often held jobs concurrently, working for a company and also running my own consulting business on the side. A lot of that work has involved education and entertainment, thus I coined the term "edutainment."

Awesome custom hand-crafted lighting. They are mostly wholesale, so there is no storefront, just a workshop. Their retail sales are pretty much through their Etsy store: LeiManuDesigns )all one word).

The owners are a husband and wife team. The business was started by the wife's dad in 1967. He still hangs out with them and advises them.
